So I am confused..do you think this is how your old belt was routed too? I always take a picture of the old belt installed before I remove it so there is no ambiguity around it installing the new one. If your new one is not routed the same as the old one, I would want to get to the bottom of that.

Don’t believe OP had any routing difference. Issue was which pulley to slip belt onto last.
