Unless you plan to daily, go for a 997 GT3. Engine in GT3 is in another league compared to the GT4. GT3 is overall just a more special car to drive than the GT4. Don’t get me wrong GT4 is a great car, but a 997 GT3 is on another level.

It's not a 911.

I suspect you'll get more action if you post in the 981 GT4 subforum vs the Cayman/CS subforum.

Ahhh,... I did NOT realize that MRyan's original post over on the Cayman subforum was NOT in the GT4 subforum. I just assumed it was.
NOW I understand why the answers he got were NOT overwhelming support for the GT4. Ha!!!

yes indeed,... Please MRyan, create a new thread in the GT4-specific subforum.
.... I'm interested to see their bias. I'm sure it will be a entertaining circle jerk of collective agreement

(.... I will at least say this, the GT4 is IMO one the sweetest looking Porsche's out there. The visual lines of the body, from all angles, are sublime to me. But I am a driver first & foremost, so the aesthetics are secondary.)

Hilarious! OP asks for opinions, gets opinions, and opinion gets slammed for being an opinion. Only on the Interwebs.

OP, you will get biased opinions in this sub forum. That said, GT3 all the way! No doubt the GT4 is a wonderful car but by nature, it will feel different in many ways. I think you answered your own question in your original post:

"the gt3 is still a dream car for me and I absolutely need/want a manual."

I was in the same boat as you, deciding between a 981 GT4 or 997.1 GT3. I liked the GT4's more modern interior and availability of bucket seats, mid-engined packaging, and having a wider selection to choose from. However, I hated the tall gearing and as many others mentioned, its engine is a disappointment. On a more emotional (illogical?) level, this was going to be my first Porsche and I wanted it to be a 911 (the car I drew in my notebooks throughout childhood).

I lucked out finding my 7.1 GT3 after six months, and it has exceeded all of my expectations on both road and track. There are some drawbacks like having to spend $8K to get the coolant lines pinned and other maintenance stuff while the engine is out, but every damn drive is an occasion. ZERO regrets choosing it over a GT4
