From what I see, yes, the body shell is the same. Part number. 997 500 900 00

There are suspension differences though as you probably know, for instance, GT2 has a specific rear sway bar, which a lot of Turbo owners will do as an upgrade.

GT2RS doesn't have the points for roof racks on the roof.

Great point. Also GT2 and GT2RS does not have a sunroof, Turbo from both .1 and .2 does.

The 2RS doesn't have the reinforcements for the rear seat belts either, believe it or not these two items are a big reason I didn't swap my GT2 for my GT2RS allocation back in 2010, obviously regret it in some ways but I actually use the rear seats (with belts installed) on my GT2 a lot as I have a few kids who like to ride around and school run etc.

Apologies but isn’t the GT chassis on the 997 the same as the cup car? I was under the impression it’s a seam welded unibody and that the regular 997 is not.

Pretty sure it's not the same as Cup car, certainly none of the blurb at the time mentioned it and you can be sure they would have.

This is the kind of stuff I’m looking for.
like any extra welding or maybe less paneling of some sort or something

AFAIK, with the street RSes there hasn't been additional welds to the body in white since the 996.

There could be additional trimmings here and there but fundamentally these are the same "tubs" between the base carrera, turbo and GT variants.

The width of the tub doesn't really matter here, that being just a different selection of the wheelarch pieces. Structurally I think the GT cars are not any stiffer than say a Carrera--I don't recall any claims to chassis torsional rigidity between same-gen cars, only gen-over-gen.

I've gone through various bare-metal rebuilds with 964, 993, 996 and 997 RSes as some of you know. In the case of the 996 and 997 I didn't spot anything that ooo'd me... not like how aircooled RSes had various easter eggs hidden under the skin.

Lastly, Cup chassis are very different things. They may look similar but really the differences are so numerous you'll just have to look at one yourself to appreciate the extent of changes.

If the turbo and gt2/rs chassis are the same that would be almost disappointing. It would make a turbo a bolt on affair into gt2 and well, that just doesnt beg a 200k for gt2 and 500k for rs price tag. I could care less about total production i care about hardware for $

I don't own a 7-2 or 2rs; so I'm not defending them. However, if tub is the main/only thing that makes a car what it is, there are a LOT of overpriced vehicles rolling around out there in the market, beyond 997 gt's

GT2s have CF front fenders that are a hair wider and they might have CF hoods (are is that only on newer cars?) rhe GT 2 front wheels are wider rims.

Nil point for that post.

997GT2 has steel front fenders, aluminium hoods and the front wheels are 8.5X19 ET 53 like the 997GT3.

The 997GT2RS had an option for CF fenders but had CF hood and 9X19 ET47 front wheels.
