Anyone have a 3.89 RP available? Looking to upgrade my 2008 RS Transmission. Please let me know if you have one you’de like to part with.

I did this mod on my 2007 RS trans. Great improvement! Go for the taller 6th gear (used in the 997.2 RS) to compensate for the lower overall ratio. Makes life on the freeway calmer. Have the tech check out the dog teeth between gears 1 & 2 as they tend to wear quicker than others. I had CMS install their 2nd gear detent device which counters this. Some posters have had some/all of their synchros replaced (I had components of the synchros replaced). Cost is minimal for the part, and can be installed easily when the transaxle is apart. Good time for a Guard LSD, and of course a good time to replace the RMS and clutch components. Starts to add up. By the time it was all said and done, about $12K to do it all at CMS in Lake Havasu, AZ.

Thanks for the info guys. Yup spoke to CMS already. Def doing the talker 6th, replace worn synchros and have Sean look everything over and do what’s nec. Already have the Guards LSD and 4.0 Lt Wt clutch and flywheel. If the RMS needs replacing, will also do that, but currently nice n dry. I’d like to source the 3.89 RP first. Please let me know. Harmony Jim, did you ship him the box from home or do the R&R some other way.

 

I built a heavy, 2x4 and plywood crate for my transaxle. Probably weighed 60-80 pounds, but I never worried whether it would arrive at CMS safely. Had my local independent do the removal & install.

 

You might also want to give Bill Rader in Vegas a ring as well. My friend and I removed my 993 transmission from the car and I sent it to him. He handled the shipping logistics, all I had to do was to make sure it was safely packed on a pallet for Fedex Freight...
