Driving During CV19 Lockdown...
Is it just me or does it seems like there are more and more people on the road now and more and more traffic police out during this CV19 lockdown? I recently heard that local police were given a mandate to tightening speed laws and issue more tickets. Can they really make that much more income with this move?
All this, despite the new-to-me 7.2 RS in the garage, is keeping me at home on the weekends with family, which is a good thing of course.

I have heard and seen the same thing. As a result, I have grounded myself to the old, slow car, to avoid any temptation and otherwise dumb-***-ery that leads to blue flashing lights in my rear view. One of the things I grow to love about this old, slow car: even if I fly by a cop, speeding in this thing, I typically just get a thumbs up (let alone the fact I’m still wearing UK plates!). As opposed to them hearing the CGT+GMG from miles away, then seeing the spaceship drive by and getting pulled over just for good measure. The old, slow, stinky 911 just has that happy, harmless look to it. Plus, even if I’m hammering it, let’s be honest, a Honda Civic could pass me! But damn, it FEELS like I’m flying!
I took the 997 and CGT back to stock exhaust to help some, but I literally think I could rob a bank in the old silver guy and have people wave and smile while I do it.

A much as I want to take advantage of the open roads, I have stayed planted and not taken the car out for a drive.
However, last week I went to visit my father and coudn't believe the way some people are driving. 100 + down the highway, 4 lane change without a turn indicator, in an econobox.
CHP reports that many of the accidents are now more critical than before.

^^^ we have definitely been seeing (over the past month) some absolutely crazy high speed driving on our Beltway intrastate highways out here in Maryland. I do my local errand running around in a 2000 4Runner (w/ 200k miles. We keep the Cayenne Turbo for longer trips & towing),... which keeps me driving VERY slow & methodical. I've been getting my doors blown off during this pandemic.
funny how those of us car-gurus would love to see America move towards a more sensible super highway approach with higher upper speed limits,... but seeing how people act during a situation like this,... and they simply cannot be trusted while in their little sh!tbox cars that cannot handle high speeds, but do it anyway. When I see a weaving in&out, crappy little 10yr old Hyundai Accent weaving going 90mph & looking like it is going to roll over going that speed,... I just want to get off that road.

I've been driving my GT3 as much as nice weather allows... That being said, I still have to go into the lab at work, so lockdown has been a little different for me than some. In central Ohio everything seems basically normal. I still see about the same number of cars on the road as pre COVID.

Anymore I think people are pretty sensitive to loud exhaust, with the progressive climate. I basically try to keep things as quiet as possible so I can have a little fun without attracting any additional attention.

In the first few days in Seattle the highways were nuts. I merge on going 60, stay in the right lane doing 70, and passed by people easily doing 90+. The # of psychos driving aggressively was scary too. Like, whats the rush? Enjoy not crawling at 5mph for a few weeks.
A few weeks in and I got my RS out for a quick drive on a sunny day, got passed by a d-bag in a 458 cabriolet easily doing 120+ in the left lane with 60mph traffic in the center lane. I'm all for speed/fun, but JFC don't do it in a way that would put others in danger.
More recently people are still driving fast, but there are certainly more people out, even in the AM/PM commuting times, so no psychos. No traffic but Lots of funny stories of bored kids doing donuts in the middle of downtown though.

Can't tell if the volume has traffic changed. Normally I am commuting in and haven't been doing that as I have been working from home. I have just been going out as needed. What I can say is people are driving ridiculously quick and recklessly. This morning, I watched a woman texting weaving in and out of lanes, probably going 70-80 in a 60. But everyone is moving along at 20 over the limit.
I have largely resisted taking my GT3 out for a drive, but did this past weekend for an hour and a half, which was nice. When I am, I am taking it out on backroads and away from everyone. Both because people are driving dangerously and second because with the amount of people that just lost their jobs and are in bad financial situations, I don't think they need to see people out in sports cars enjoying the nice weather.

I have been driving the GT3 on the weekends only to pick up groceries or restaurant take out. I do take the long way, though. ;-)
I can wait until the world returns to a healthier state to go on purely fun drives.

Since my work is deemed essential, no decrease for me. I agree with avoiding unnecessary social contact, but taking P-car for a backroads drive or the Ducati for some curves, in anyway involves anyone else’s health. That being said, I like grocery stores several miles from home.😁

Speeds have definitely increased out there as people think the roads are wide open and going 90mph+ on I95 seems to be the norm now, usually in a car that is not meant to be driven at those speeds. I am hoping you own that middle parking space too, as you know, it's a bit of an invitation for vandals.

Been getting out every few days for a drive..It's pretty much the only time I leave the house currently. Took the GT3 out for a 200 mile run yesterday and I saw a ton of state patrol though few were running radar. If I'm a cop in these times I'm not interested in pulling someone over for 10 or even 15 mph over. Why risk the potential exposure..
