Completely agree with your post. The 4.0 you can drive and enjoy without drawing attention. True inner beauty...

no one will bother you in that 50 year old POS.
and OP is right
4.0 can be driven more than CGT.
I can't and won't park CGT anywhere other than my warehouse and house.
even stealthier, not many know it's a 4.0

if you ever want to make the mistake of thinking about selling those wheels. Please send me a PM😆 The most aesthetic looking wheels for a GT3 in my opinion

You have the distinct advantage of a 5-lug white car... tell the uncouth/uninitiated it's a 997.1 GT3 with .2 bodykit... may even get you mad cred among crowds 20 years our junior...

I'll add my 2 cents as regards the 997 3.8/4.0 RS differences.
I'm fortunate enough to have driven both back-to-back many times in an attempt to grasp the differences.
Everything that's been said about the suspension in the 4.0 holds true. In addition, there's the growl and torque that's present in the 4.0 motor - you can really sense and feel the motorsports heritage - it's throaty and angry when it comes on cam.
Yes, it's a slightly more special car, but all told, the price difference doesn't reflect in the driving difference.
Personally, I've found that I enjoy driving the 3.8 a little more than the 4.0, but that may be because I'm a little too conscious of the value of the 4.0 and thus perhaps drive the 3.8 harder. Either way, there's a delicacy to the 3.8; it has all the power one needs; all the balance and finesse one needs; all the grip one needs. It's a very real and visceral driving experience, and the steering is perhaps a tad more lively in your hands than the 4.0, IMO.
I'm very fortunate to own many P cars, from the 1950s all the way through the latest water-pumper GT cars. Truth be told, if I could own just one modern Porsche, it would be a 3.8 GT3 RS. As wonderful as the 4.0 is, the 3.8 seems just right to me. It's the Goldilocks of GT cars.
Best wishes to you all through these most trying times.

I just got a new speedster...I almost feel like it's shift by wire the gear shifter has literally zero feedback.
It's a terrific car but further shows how the 991 is so numb in comparison to the 997

So many RS 4.0 owners in here!
Owning my small but proud collection of 997.2 GT3RS and 997.1 GT2 I love to have at least some idea of what these guys are talking about, and although I dream of RS 4.0 and GT2 RS equivalents of my cars, I also remember every day to be thankful for what I have. On the face of it we are all doing very well compared to so many out there, and seeing what is going on in the world right now makes me ever more thankful for what we have and the great community that we share together. Stay safe and healthy my brothers and sisters, and keep exercising these amazing Porsches that were made to be driven, not stored away in protective bubbles.

So with the world locked inside it's given me a lot of open roads to really go out and enjoy the RS4.0.
Each time I drive it I fall more in love with it. It's without question my favorite 911 by a mile. Frankly it may be my favorite all around car in my stable.
Sure the CGT is way more special but less usable.
You can drive the 4.0 anywhere and most people just think it's another old 911. Those who know...know...of course.
But this thing is just a dream...I snapped a pic in the garage last night...I'll post in a second.

If you are in North Jersey, I'd be happy to join (or start) a small group drive if you know of any!! Epic car. Epic collection.

Prior to deciding to target my 997.2 GT3, I drove several 2016 naturally aspirated 911 GTS', and clearly that car was NOT exciting enough,... and some of that was due to the tranny too. I'm sure the new Speedster shifter & gearbox are better than what I was comparing to,... but nontheless,....
... and btw, I LOVE the gearbox in my .2 GT3. So that mechanical notchiness is pleasing to me, AND I do not mind (actually prefer) a stiffer clutch pedal
I'm sure a GT3RS 4.0 would be the ultimate for me,... but I also have the need to put lots of miles on my cars

Nothing in current Porsche line up can compare to 997 manual engagement or chassis feel. Long live the Mezger!
Hope all of you and yours are well and staying safe.
