Or super dumb LOL! It was a lot of work for 3lbs. On the other hand, once you reduce weight with exhaust mods, removing any additional weight from the rear end becomes pretty hard. Not really concerned about the safety aspects of this mod. I really did not remove much material, and that bar is freaking stout (heavy guage aluminum, boxed construction, etc...). I avoided removing material from around the tow hook area and the two mounting points. I could have been much more aggressive but settled on this "middle ground."

FWIW the Euro version weighs 8lbs and the US version weighs 16lbs.

I was able to source from Porsche Motorsport a front and rear bumper brace that was used on the 996RSR. The RSR parts are a direct bolt on but substantially lighter at 3.93 lbs. for the front and 5.68 lbs. for the rear. They are physically made out of a thinner material than the street parts and also have the cut outs. Interestingly, the tow hook attachment on the rear RSR brace is not in the center as on the US brace but rather in the right upper corner of the license plate area. I think this is done on the Euro cars also.

The idea behind the tow hook location, at least on the euro bumper, is you don't have to remove the license plate to access the tow hook.

Curious as to what those rsr braces cost? I know the euro rear brace is around $480 new.

Thats cool and probably something I would have done back when I had a knee mill in the garage, but older me thinks that if you ever had someone rear-end you, your insurance company might give you grief if they knew about this.

I have a PM account. You can get Euro parts from most Porsche dealers. The 6RSR braces are NLA. I sourced the last set a few years ago from Weissach. If I recall, the rear RSR brace was the same brace used on the street 996RS as it was the homologation vehicle for the RSR. I would get that one. The front RSR brace ended in a .9B which is a Motorsport # and not shared with a street car. It may however be a modified street part. I don't know for sure.

996/997 Cup crash braces are the lightest for one simple reason. They don't use any...

So I did see that FVD has carbon impact bumper pieces that fit 993 cars .Huge weight savings.2 lbs vs I guess 16 .Any thoughts on anyone else making such a part for the 997.2? OR what about the chance of making the 993 parts somehow fit?
