Almost a decade since the incredible 620bhp 997 GT2 RS was released by the guys at Weissach and even today its still showing new dual clutch supercars a clean set of heels.

Like it. I’d take 997 over most of those cars.

Still the utter pinnacle of water-cooled 911s in my mind. It's my first Powerball dream purchase.

I usually complain about the lack of GT2 content in this section. Not today!

id like to see a 997 GT2/GT2RS go up on a twisty road course against a 991 GT2RS with same rubber and driver. 3,075lbs / 630 HP vs 3,300lbs / 690 HP but more downforce.

Going to be hard for a lot of modern super cars to beat a 3,000lb 620hp RWD turbo GT2RS.

I'd bet the 991.2 GT2 RS would win nearly any conceivable performance contest against the 997.2 GT2 RS, and believe me I'd rather have the 997.2 personally.

Its the one car I regret not buying so enjoyed that vid compilation. A beautiful aqua blue 7 GT2 RS sat at my local showroom with no-one wanting to take her home for ages. Just sat on the forecourt unsold for a year or maybe even more. I'd still have one over a 991. At the time I thought £160k was far too much for a 911. Still do TBH. Now Porsche charging £250k for 911 and then second hand buyers paying another £100k-£200k on top just to own something like 991 GT2 RS or Speedster! How times change!?

If it can beat a cup car.... I’d still take 997 over 991. Scuderia or CS would be great

Watched a VMAX drag video yesterday (1/2 mile?) I watched a stock 991 GT2 RS blow the doors off everything from a P1, Veyron, 2 Lambos and a Pagani and just about every supercar you can think of. The launch speed and acceleration was astonishing. It won every race by 10 car lengths minimum...

That doesn't seem right. We all know that 991.2 GT2 RS is fast, but that is TOO FAST for a stock example. If the car was modified considerably I could believe it of course but the math doesn't work out to out-run a P1 or Veyron stock (and certainly not by 10 car lengths).

I was surprised as well. I’ll find it and post it..

A lot of the 991 GT2RS hype is due to shiny new toy syndrome. In most people’s minds, its the absolute latest and greatest in all ways and therefore nothing can conceivably touch it.

Reality is that just like the GT3 guys have discovered, the 997 is in may ways better.
