A lot of the 991 GT2RS hype is due to shiny new toy syndrome. In most people’s minds, its the absolute latest and greatest in all ways and therefore nothing can conceivably touch it.
Reality is that just like the GT3 guys have discovered, the 997 is in may ways better.
100% agreed and it's why I love the 997 generation so much...much more than the numbers suggest. The only point holding a 991.2 GT2 RS up on any pedestal is because of its amazing performance numbers.
Speaking of that. If you had to chose one. Would it be your gt2 or gt3?
I love them both, but my GT3 RS will always be my favorite child. I've also owned it much longer, but the emotional connection is stronger. It's my favorite dance partner of them all...by a significant margin. It's the last car I'd ever sell.
id like to see a 997 GT2/GT2RS go up on a twisty road course against a 991 GT2RS with same rubber and driver. 3,075lbs / 630 HP vs 3,300lbs / 690 HP but more downforce.

So very true, and it's not even remotely close. As much as I can say I don't really want to own a 991.2 GT2 RS (meaning I'd rather have my two 997s), there is no argument that it's the SPEED KING of the family.
I have a GT2 RS in my sightline (definitely in the next two years, possibly this year)...but right now still trying to decide between the 997.2 and the 991.2. Both are similarly priced...I have some time to think about it, both incredible cars; if I had to pull the trigger today I think I'd go for rarity and get the 2011 6MT.

Most don't consider the Nordschleife a twisty road course. Long straights and long sweeping turns favor the 991 over the 997. It would be interesting to see a head to head on a tight track as the 997 has a weight advantage. We already know which is favored in the canyons.

Steve,
I have had mine for just about a month now. I can see why you have such an attachment to the 3RS. That car is completely deserving of such fierce loyalty. 'Full disclosure: I have never owned a GT2 or 2RS.
Another nice vid I came across. I've driven this track once or twice so nice to see his lines and braking points - he's fast - RS looks so well sorted on track
Meh. If we are talking about drag racing, I think my DD (a Livernois S1025 Trackhawk) would actually beat my GT2 in the 1/4 mile. To me, the GT2 is a GT3 but with TORQUE! Best of both worlds, and certainly not a car you buy as a drag racer, but I get its a useful easy and quick power to weight comparison between any two cars.
