@Elliotw44 I do have a spare 3k mile .2 GT3 engine complete with harness if your in a bind but its not cheap.

That will help me understand if my failure is an intermediate revision or the final revision. Given that my car had the WC512 completed, I expect the part on my car to be in the range of 91-95.
    • if it's the final revision, look for an alternative solution like @ilko
    • if intermediate revision, go with the latest revision
  • Pay the bill and get the car running again ASAP.
    • I called Sharkwerks about an engine build. The waitlist is out to 2026, which is out of the question given that I don't want the car down for 1.5 years.
It's a fool's goal in my mind to try to get Porsche to pay for this, being that it's so far out of warranty and production. They mostly care about selling the latest and greatest.

I gotta say that I love @FLT6SPD he has been hoarding lots of stuff for a long time. Do you still have the full E30/M3 OEM repair manual?

Ha, I still have it. I have been actively looking for the perfect E30 M3 and talking myself out of it at the same time. I do have to eventually purge but until then I'll add...

PS, I did go with my son to pickup a full Alpinestars full suit based our conversation. Thanks!

I would reach out to Chris Cervelli concerning a rebuild. He's one of the premiere engine and gearbox builders in the US. He's done all my race Mezgers over the last 10 years including 3.6, 3.8 and 4.0s. Extensive experience building any Mezgers from basic street GT3 to full RSR motors. Full Haas machining capability on site including a Mainline chassis dyno which allows him to test engines directly on site without the car. He just refreshed my 4.0 this past week actually with a full teardown and reassembly. He has 4 or 5 engines he's doing right now that I know of but likely could get something done in the not too distant future. He'd done a ton of custom work for me and with his machining capability he could likely engineer a permanent solution to the failure prone flapper valve hardware. He is going to incorporate this in the 991.1Cup Mezger he will be building for me later this fall.

Damn, sorry to hear Elliot. I'm sure you'll come back with a better, stronger engine. Best of luck mate!

Sorry to hear. Was there any hint of an odd noise / rattle before the part failure?

Sorry to hear about your situation. This really sucks big time. Quick question, is WC512 different from WC51, or is this a typo?

Sorry this happened, Elliot. I know what it feels like to unexpectedly have to pour money into car repair.

damn and you just got it back from the shop…

you are the one guy on this forum that actually drives his RS… which makes me think the rest of us just “say” it’s bullet proof cause we drive it 3k miles and park it.

I feel like your issues are really good ones to document well for us so we can be preventative… my take away is that I didn’t have much reason for the Dundon Plenum but now I do.

Thanks for the support! Yes, WC51 and WC512 are the same. This was the campaign in 2013ish to update the center section. Once I get the part number from the center section(which failed), I will share it. I believe that will be great information for other owners.

No, it happened very quickly. There were no lights on the dash either. The engine died and wouldn't fire again.

Elliot, that is such a bummer man, sorry to hear. Hope you're able to get it back on the road soon. A bit farther away but TPC or Autometrics might be worth a call too to see if they have any availability. Fingers crossed you can get it back and enjoying the PNW roads again soon.

Hey Elliot, sorry to see this happened to you. We have met down at the shop and at the track, I have the 996TT race car. Chris Cervelli mentioned above did my engine when it let go out at the ridge. Highly recommend getting in touch with him if you can. He basically built me a 4.0 GT3 engine with turbos on it and communication, time frame and quality of work was phenomenal.

That was the updated intake that broke, it had been changed during the recall in 2013. Mind you, the newest version of the intake Porsche now sells is a different part number than the recall-updated version. So at some point they've decided that version wasn't good enough...

I fought Porsche long and hard for a year to cover the engine rebuild, since the recalled part failed. I even contacted NHTSA, etc., etc. In the end they did nothing. Really poor customer service.

I am not confident that the newest version of the intake tube is going to be robust over time. So I asked the shop that rebuilt the engine to create special screens on both sides of the intake tube, to catch shrapnel if the arm breaks again:

Are the screens you had manufactured worth installing as a preventative measure for our cars.

Elliot- sorry to hear of your issues,
