Seen it on 3.8 and 4.0 it was more immediate inthe 4.0.

The solution is 4.1L Sharky.

I guess I was hoping for an easy never worry flapper solution.

Well, add another 3.8 to the list. It just happened to me a few weeks ago. The large intake flap failed, and the small pieces fell into the engine. WC512 was completed in 07/2013. The full damage report is pending.

Man, really sorry to hear that, Elliot. You just had a decent bit of downtime with the head gasket too, IIRC.

Elliot, say it ain't so. This is no bueno. Could this have anything to do with the last time it was in the shop? Something wasn't reassembled properly?

Thanks for the support folks! I will determine if my car has the updated WC512 intake. I agree with previous posts in this thread that if you drop the motor on a .2 RS/4.0, it's worth investigating if you've had the WC512 done and consider a proactive replacement. I don't think this failure has to do with shop negligence. These flaps are internal to the intake itself.

wow sorry to hear man, that sucks. since im currently shopping for a 997.1 or .2 non RS, is this something i have to keep in mind to look out for on the non RS 3.8 motor? seemed from the posts above, it can happen in any of the .2 but more prone in the RS? -

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I've not heard of any issues with the resonance tube screws on a non RS .2. The RS and non RS have different part numbers.

Elliot! Man that is terrible news. Take pics of the throttle body flap screws and all of the screw heads inside the resonance chamber so we can get an idea if they backed out, broke off or disintegrated and which flap it was.

The screws that hold the flaps would loosen and get inhaled

WC51 resonance intake tube recall was only issued for the 997.2 3.8 and 4.0 RS. The 997.1 GT3/RS and 997.2 GT3 did not have the same intake flap issues.
