Plenty of power and amazing balance, you won't look back.

Keep us posted on your acquisition.
Just an opinion right?

Well, I do like the looks of the .1 more. The .2 May grow on me once I drive one.

I owned both at the same time. Sold the .1 and kept the .2. Noticeable difference in power and handling. I'll admit I liked the look of the .1 better but the performance won me over with the .2
You can't go wrong either way.

Lol,... I was thinking the same thing! ... Funny how such slight variations in looks between .1 & .2 seem to garner such strong opinions on RL.

I certainly admit they are very slight in nature,.. and most "normal" people would think we are nutz.... but I absolutely prefer the looks of the .2

Prefer how the rear tail lights have a slight up-turn to meet the engine lid

Prefer the air outlet grill just under the engine deck lid (non-existent in the .1 & looks bland)

Prefer the horizontal crease in the front bumper to the inside of the daytime lights (.1 doesn't blend the 2 areas together)

Definitely prefer the .2 wing when it comes to comparing non-RS

.1 tail lights look like 2 separate halves (one slapped on top of the other), whereas the .2 has the red surrounding the white center (in the non-optioned tail lights)

I also liked the fact that I could find a .2 with 14-way seats (esp for my wife who loves turning on the seat heaters even in 90 degree weather!), and can always put a LWBS in the drivers spot for race days)

Most definitely prefer the .2 interior & especially the dash

The only thing I like better on the .1 is the lower portion of the rear bumper & the 2 air outlets on each side. That looks great (Porsche shoulda made it functional for reducing rear wheel-well turbulence & brake cooling either way!!)

.... but NONE of this matters to the original post since it's more about the track,.... so pls just DIS regard

hahaha,... all in good fun though.

If anything, 997 GT3 RS owners are a passionate bunch. Seem much more so than the 991 folks.

Another 2 cents on performance:

You will get plenty of visceral from any mezger GT3.

I probably can’t talk having only driven .1 RS... but find it hard to imagine a noticeable performance difference for your primary use of canyon carving between any of the 3.6 or 3.8 variants. Perhaps if you drive back to back, probably when on track.. but not enough to matter except in conversations like these!

well said Matt. And if Boisecar is set on a RS, the value buy right now is the .1 with 15-20k miles. Especially if he wants to go SW3.9 and expect to retain some of those investment $$'s.

But then again, if Boise was Ok with a non-RS, then the choices get even wider (no pun Widers911,... but until you give me a ride in your SW3.9 I can't subscribe to your train of thought Lol,... summers half over!!)

Boise, If you are even considering a .1 RS do a 25k mile example and send it to Sharkwerks. IMO it's the pinnacle of 997 design. I've owned a .1 GT3, GT3 RS and GT2. If you want a noticeable power gain then you want the 3.9. It's in an entirely different league than an RS 3.8. And as others mentioned you can get a driver .1 for $125k. Do the motor and you've got yourself a 4.0 RS for less than half the price; since collectibility isn't the issue. Pete Stout driver of more Porsches than anyone likes the 3.9 better than the factory 4.0. You can buy a set of the .2 carbon buckets new delivered to your door for under $8k. Who knows you may even have enough fun without the motor. And with the .1 you don't have to deal with those nasty centerlocks. And you'll have dough left over for fun driving mods. No brainer for what you're seeking. JBO

GT2-Josh, I think you’ve read my mind. Planning exactly what you’ve recommended. Now all I have to do is find the “right” .1 to buy. Oh and sell my TTS.

It depends on some options like exhaust for example. It also varies on miles driven, wear, deferred maintenance and if you do an engine at Sharkwerks, Dundon, Autometrics etc. I'd suggest if you're serious you contact your builder of choice to discuss your goals. JBO
