MPSC2 questions
Ok, so I'm trying to shod this .1 with some new cups. Was at Sunset GT car show this am and was really looking at the cup tires and noticed that some have a rim protector and some don't. Would like to get a set without the raised bead.
does anyone know what differentiates the two? Is it tire size, year produced, etc...

I didn't know they sold with both options.
Are you sure they were Cup 2's?
My Cup2's are the type that have the velvety letter surrounds - I think they call it "Premium Touch". Seems like that is an "option",.. so seems logical that maybe the rim protector bead is too?
Maybe give Tire Rack a call, and see if their reps know what options those tires can come in.

Premium touch around the letters and another small section of the racing flag pattern. I think that's on all new Pilots. In addition, there are a few sizes that have premium touch on the entire sidewall, but those are for sizes that fit BMW's and similar. Those tires look amazing.
I should have taken pictures today but yes, all the tires I compared were cup 2's and the only difference were that the non beaded were on the 991's and were 20" and beaded on the other cars were 19". Hope that doesn't determine if one gets the bead or not.

I read the lettering and all the tires I saw were cup 2's. some with beads and some without.

Out of curiosity I just called Tire Rack, and they said currently they sell 2 flavors of MPSC2's (in the sizes I was asking about which were for my stock 997.2 GT3), and it is the "non-specified" ones that do indeed have the beaded rim protector, and the N0 does not.
They also said they did not think that Michelin has yet received the certification from Porsche (or maybe they have not even changed the compound such that they would "submit" to Porsche yet) to designate any MPSC2 as N1. Not yet anyway.

Per Tire Rack.
N Spec tires have no rim protector
Non N spec tires have a rim protector.
I'm going with the stock sizing on tires.
Thanks for all the support.

Regular, non N spec have no lip protector.
N1 (which I am running) have lip protectors. My fronts are non N spec, just regular. They have no lip protector.
M0 (Mercedes) has a lip protector as well but I do not recommend these tires as the ride is softer/"squirmy".

Damn, look at those HRE''s. Beautiful. I've got a set on an RS4 and I love them but in that orange, that's another level.
Psorcery, please post up a picture of your findings. We are trying to get a definitive answer. I'm looking at FLT's tires and add that to what tire Rack stated and it looks like "NO" spec is no protection.
