From my experience, which is an observer of the market not someone actually transacting at this time, 77k is towards the low end for car with no accidents or isn't a complete track rat. What are the miles on that one?

I always say a 77k car is just that, a 77k car. You buy it and then you immediately throw the other 13k at it because it comes up bit short in some areas. It you can live with a car that needs attention (stock items needing replacement) and can do it yourself for less, then it can be a good deal.

Yes. Good point and I agree..the range seems to be more of a $85,000 - $95,000+ for decent examples needing some small attention.

The $77k car was the very first car I found so my reference is all messed up.
Mileage is 50,546. Up there. But I am OK with that.
DME report seems to be fine with it as well.

My experience has been cars (and airplanes) that sit require just as much maintenance as ones that are used routinely.
So barring really crazy miles, I am not too put off by that aspect.

+1. Pay me now...or pay me later.
I am OK with that. That way I get to fix it my way instead of somebody else's way.
Heck, I bought my 355 with the engine out of it and on a stand. Perfect.

As our thread starter will attest, I am a DIY guy.
I'll do anything except bodywork and paint. Those guys are artists and I pay willingly for their skills.

^^I'm in the same boat as you. I can do anything mechanical. When it comes to body and paint, I leave it to the people with the right equipment, facilities and knowledge. Oh, also PIWIS computer stuff is out also as that machine is like $19,000 to lease per year.

It truly is a pay now or pay later mentality with these cars. You can buy one in the $70s with higher miles that needs work or you can buy one for $90k that is ready to go and drive.

There are the select few cases though where you can pick up one in the upper $70s and as long as you are ok with some physical flaws, you may be able to not put anything else into it depending on how much you are driving it. Then I am sure there are plenty of cases where people spend $100k on a GT3 and later have the engine explode for no reason (yes I understand the Mezger is strong but I have heard of engine failures occurring). But in general, the first example of pay now or pay later seems to be a bit more of the norm.

Nice to see you join the RL fray Dr. Watson,... and also appears you are quite nicely settling into your needs / desires / verses price willing to pay -vs- that which you want / can do yourself.

This is an exciting time for you in terms of the Porsche GT underworld!!

Have FUN with it!!

Also take into consideration the options/MSRP of the GT3, that plays a role in the cost delta. You can enter the vin in a site like below to see how the car was optioned:

Great rasponses here and I appreciate the help.
Not saying it is necessarily overpriced, just that it seemed a bit high compared to a $77,000 GT3 I am considering. That's all.
I know crap about Porsche pricing so it would be pretty presumptuous of me to say anything in regards to over priced, under priced, etc.
Hell, I am still trying to figure out the model numbers at this point.

...and Erik, please, help a brother out, I own a 355 and a FI TR8. A TR6 has an inline 6 tractor motor in it for goodness sake.

My search continues and I am smarter as I do it because of you guys. Thank you.

Hey!, my first post.

Well, you did say your Triumph has a Rover engine which is kinda like a tractor....... British cars are confusing.

Thanks to Hacker I did indeed find a GT3. Finally.

Last week Monday I had a 2011 GT3 PPI'd at Driver Source in Houston (great job by the way). Couple of issues, but nothing I could not overcome.
Just about to set up some airfare and take a look.....

Then, during dinner that night (much to the annoyance of my wife) I started to receive photos via text from Hacker of a very nice 2007 white GT3. One after another after another.
Turns out our local Porsche dealer took this in on trade and Hacker had been on the Porsche Brand Manager at this place all summer to find a GT3....

I had a test drive set-up before anyone even knew it was for sale.
I drove it Wed morning and bought it before I shut the engine down.
There is not a scratch on it and it still smells new....

The dealer did a complete 12 year service on the car and managed to get it Certified by Porsche (CPO) so it has a 2 year warranty.
Many thanks to Hacker, Nick Halfman (Porsche Brand Manager) and the entire team at Bergstrom Porsche in Appleton, WI. Great work.

I now have a British car, an Italian car and, as of about 2 hours ago, a German one.

Thanks for having me here.... I will apologize now for all the stupid questions I am about to launch at you folks.

Some pictures for fun:

Congrats! I'm extremely jealous! That's the exact spec I'm in the market for, and have Doug from Switchcars trying to find for me as well. White with PCCB's and clean! Great addition to your garage!
