I cut my teeth on that platform.
I am not sure I am still alive after 100k miles on that platform plenty occasions that I scared myself.
Why do you have a 4.0 and not a 6 now then? I had a 1st gen 6 GT3, which was great, but prefer the precision, handling consistency, steering directness, performance, sound, ride and chassis rigidity of the 4.0.

LOL I had a total of 13 996GT3. you now see the love hate relationship. I love how it drove but hated her look.
for me, 6 and 4.0 are equally as precise
997 has more stable handling
steering was more direct with 6
speed is high in 997
ride and chassis rigidity is better with 997
sound... I think is a tie to me. 997 has louder exhaust, 6 has louder mechanical noises.
I sold my last 6 2 years ago. who knows if I buy another

R: too easy to shift, too light a clutch, no wing,
4.0: MANLY I need to over compensate.

Very different cars.
I own both 996gt3, 996gt3rs and 4.0

My 996gt3rs is bone stock and my 996gt3 is heavily modified for track use.
The 4.0 is set up for a mixture of street and track.

Every time I drive my 4.0 and 996gt3 back to back I just want to shoehorn that 4.0l engine into the back of the 996gt3.

One day day it will see a 3.9l or sharky 4.1l in the 996gt3. To me that would be the ultimate track day car.

I’ve driven 997.1 gt3, 997.2 rs, and 991.1 rs. All great cars! Maybe it was the particular mods or setup but I wouldn’t trade (even money) my moton, monoball 996.2 gt3 for any of them, much less for any other newer Porsche. Not joking.

And the look has been growing on me over the years. Looks better every spring after hibernation.

Great article! Thanks for uploading!

My only issue with it is the 997.2 RS hp figure. .2 RS owners, correct me if I'm wrong, the RS does not have 435, but received a power bump to 450 over the 435 of my baby GT3. Along with some more aggressive gearing. The 997.1 RS and base GT3, however did share the same hp figures of 415, with the RS 20 Kg lighter.

if your 6 is in europe there's always the Manthey 4.1 or 4.2 option too A friend of mine has driven one of the 7gt3s converted to the 4.1 and said it was absolutely superb.

Great video, thx! The guy went all-in on proper mods for his 996.2 gt3 and at probably the best shop in Europe, if not the world. Only confirmed my own conclusions about the car from few posts ago. If I ever sell my 996.2 gt3, it would have been the last Porsche (or car) that I own.

All I have to say is that I'm incredibly lucky to own my RS 3.8. Every thing they said about the RS 4.0 I feel applies to my own car, and although I lack the budget to have an RS 4.0 if I can have even 90% of the experience in my own car than I can forever be happy!

They just don't make cars like these anymore. The last of the hydraulic steering and last of the manual gearbox RS cars, may they always be remembered well by those of us who are the custodians of them. It's a great place to be!

Absolutely. I've only had a very short drive of a 991 GT3 (a .1 RS) and not in circumstances where I could do it justice but it was enough to tell me that while very impressive it feels bland in comparison to the 997 4.0 and no doubt the 3.8.
