Tomorrow is the last day I call California "home" for the foreseeable future. I'm off to Japan and after, we will see where the wind takes me. Ironically i signed up 12 years ago before i left to visit Japan and now i'm signing off as i leave to live in Japan.
Anyone in Japan that wants to hangout and talk cars ? Please PM me!

I want to thank all of you on this board, the 996 gt and 996 Turbo board. Over the last 12 years I have had a blast being an active participant.
A lot of great, great people i have met here. Great friends made a long the way. Very knowledgeable individuals which i have learned a lot from, not just about cars.
Thank you to all. As for GT. Right now, it's sitting in a garage. Not sure if to sell or let it rot, to many tire kickers.

Always enjoyed reading your posts and especially the latest ones on the rear suspension tweaks you tested out.
I'm sure you looked into what it would take to get your car over there, so it's too bad that it's not going with you.

Good luck with your next adventure over in Japan! Which city/area are you going to be in?
They'll likely have internet there, so you can always keep tabs on value threads, stitching choices, etc

Big change. Good luck on the new home.

Curious on what's taking you to Japan to live. Work?

Are there no Porsches in japan?

To ship container from US to Japan is only $3500.00 And the last time I heard, if you are a service member, no taxes.

Or thats only in the European Theater?

Japan has some of the smoothest, most interesting mountain roads imaginable! I did a big week cycling while over there (a 24 hour week, as I was building base for the upcoming season) and saw incredible mountains, fun climbs, and technical descents, all with little to no traffic. Granted, I was in a rural area (Oita), but I had a blast. Many of the roads were wide one-lane affairs. I can't imagine it would be any less fun in a car. One ride in particular was 5.6 hours, 108 miles, with 11,600 feet of elevation gain. No climbs were over 900 meters, but the profile was shark-toothed.

19.3MPH avg over 108mi & 11,600 feet of elevation. I hate you

I've only been to Japan a few times. Very interesting country. I was surprised how few people spoke English, even at hotels in Tokyo. But I certainly respect the pride most take in almost everything they do. Even the little things like when you order a breakfast sandwich at McDonalds and it comes to you like it's ready for a photo shoot. Everything perfectly prepared and perfectly lined up. Then they give it to you like it's a gift they made for you. A bit different than in the US. Also, even though smoking is pretty common over there, you almost never see a cigarette butt on the ground. They usually put the butt in a little pouch that goes in their pocket 'til they can dispose of it. Litter in general is very rare to see.

I know this is not your question but the F40 scene in Japan is unreal....from stock to full on LM/GTE hot rods. Oh yeah the Porsches are also insane and tend to be in better shape than those in Europe. In particular the 964 and 993 stuff in Japan is outrageously good. My buddy imports them and it seems like the RS stuff is endless. JBO
