We can confirm that the 3rd 997 GT2 does exactly the same thing: When up-shifting, particularly when accelerating from low boost, the car will noticeably blip the throttle on upshifts. The 3rd owner offered the only explanation that makes any sense (to me), and that it was the cars's way of keeping the boost up between shifts... So that is 3 out of 3 cars and I can put this to bed now.

Thanks for your comments, and giving me lesson in basic physics

Yes you're right the 997 GT2RS has single mass flywheel, so the ligher than 997 GT2 (dual mass)

What your experiencing is normal for GT2's i got #4 Over rev from that and i never over revved the car, when i upshift aggressively at redline it goes past 7k RPM i believe it is flywheel inertia some say turbo pressure thrust, there are a few threads here that talk about it. To avoid this i have learned to shift by the shift light as it won't allow the engine to over rev past the limit.
I know Toby (TB993TT) and a few others here experienced the same thing on the 7GT2

There’s a Porsche TSB - “engine overshoot”. Has to do with throttle position sensor being out of alignment. Had it in my 08 turbo.
dealer fixed per TSB. Never happened again. There’s also a flywheel pulse sensor. Your issue sounds s8milar.

I have an 08 GT2 with 20k on it. Never had that issue or any other for that matter!

My '08 GT2 recently started doing the same exact thing. It only happens under heavy acceleration and full boost. I've had it for 7 years and early on did an EVOMS flash, which then required a stronger clutch. I installed a stronger Sachs clutch and single mass flywheel as on a GT@ RS. It also has GT2RS intercoolers. It's had all these modifications for about 7 years and only started over-revving between shifts recently. I also spoke with another GT2 owner that experiences the same thing. There is definitely something going on. I'll explore the "Engine Overshoot" TSB.

Did we meet in the parking at Sigfest? (e30 M3 show)

If so I might be the other GT2 owner you spoke with. Mine is an 08 and has done this since I purchased the car about 2 years ago. After talking to several owners with the same issue, I assumed it was normal behavior, and that maybe it's designed to keep the car in the power band during shifts. It's not very pleasant though, so would love to know if there's a solve.

What the OP describe I have experienced on both of the gt2s I’ve driven that had tunes on them. I assumed at the time that this was done on purpose due to single mass FW as it drops in revs very quickly in between shifts so the tune was blipping it to keep the Revs/boost up. I always thought it to be very cool and a feature ..... well now I am not so sure haha! But yeah I shift near redline and have seen tach to past 7k into the red due to this auto blip (but there is no load on the engine) I am sure you can hit DME ovveerevs like this.

Yes sir, that was me.
My car only began doing it recently and it seems to be getting worse.

Small world. If you tackle this, please report back. I'll do the same.

No luck on my end. Called 4 separate dealers and no one’s heard of it or can find a relevant TSB. They also don’t seem too interested in helping over the phone. Might try handling myself or at an independent shop.

Does anyone have specific info on the repair? Is it a relatively simple fix?
