997 Roof transport plugs ?

997 Roof transport system access doors
Hi Guys ,
This may be a rudimentary question ; do all 997.1 coupes ( standard 911 , S , GT3 , GT3 RS ) have the blank off plugs for the roof transport system or was it confined to certain years and / or models ?
Thanks,
Bryan

They aren't 'blank off plugs'.
They are little doors where the gnomes come out and mount your roof rack.
Press down on the outermost side and they will open.
ALL 997.1 911 coupes had them (Carrera, Turbo, GTx)
997.2 911 coupes had them EXCEPT the GTx cars. They have a continuous strip on either side that does not have the doors.
It is said the actual mounting holes are under that strip and you can install a Carrera's strips with doors to actually use the holes but I've not seen that verified.

I wonder if the filler strip from a .2 could be installed on a .1 to eliminate the doors ? It is something small that drives me nuts to look at . It seems like it would be held in place by the rubber gasket between the roof panel and the side frame of the car .

^^^ Yes this is doable. Just grab a .2 GT PET and all part numbers are there.

Ha Ha !!! You got me there ! I'll admit that is pretty cool and the lower pic is a twin of my RS ( w/o euro rear bumper ) , but those little rectangles are messing with my mind . Calling my friend in the parts dept in the am .

Hey Guys ,
Has anyone ever removed the roof edge strips ? I've priced them and they're fairly pricey and need to be painted ( Carrera White ) , but I'm wondering if they are plastic or aluminum ? I doubt I'm ever going to find anyone with a .2 RS who wants to have the doors so it looks like I'd need to buy these through Porsche special order and have them painted .
Thanks,
Bryan

looks pretty easy
1) Pull the front of the roof edge strip directly up until it pops off. You may need a plastic trim tool or similar to get between the windshield weatherstrip and the front of the strip.
2) There are four fasteners along the length of the strip. You just removed the forward most one in step 1. Keep pulling vertically and you'll remove the 2nd and 3rd.
3) The 4th fastener is a plastic pop rivet that is hidden behind the plastic trim that spans the top part of the rear hatch opening. If you pull the corner of the plastic backwards and down a bit, it will pop out and reveal the head of the rivet.
4) Drive the central plastic pin through the river with a small screwdriver. You won't be able to get the pop rivet out otherwise.
5) The whole piece should now come off by moving it backwards about and inch and lifting it off.
You'll need a new plastic rivet to put it back together. The correct part number is 999 507 499 40 but I'm sure every auto parts store will have comparable fasteners that will work.
If you pull to far on the plastic trim in step 3, you may detach the weatherstrip from the body of the car. A little 3M weatherstrip adhesive corrects this.
