Curious, why do you run those tires if you trailer to every event?
So here in NorCal most people track on R compounds, which means that my car with the R1S ends up being significantly faster than 99% of cars at the various events. This in turn makes it kind of boring to lap by myself. Periodically I use the normal R compound tires to drive with my friends, experience something new or mitigate some oversold event with a lot of traffic.
Also, since Sonoma is about 30 mins away I could drive the car there on RE71R rather than using a trailer. I used to drive to all the events on my NT01, but ended up adding a ton of miles on the car.

Interesting, thanks. I get what you mean about being faster than most of track, a slower tire is one way to handle that.

It has been 6+ weeks and finally chance to drive again. This time on a beautiful Thursday morning with Hooked on Driving at Sonoma Raceway. I put on the new 991 cup canards and finally got the 255/19 RE71R tires to fit. Had a couple of very fast GT4 friends with me for the day as well!
The morning session was nice and cool, but predictably a lot of traffic. It was OK as the tires needed to be scrubbed in anyway. I swear I am passing him in this picture and not the other way around
Second session of the day the traffic cleared out a bit so it was time to go for it. The RE71R performed really well!
I can't believe the tires did 1:46.3 almost matching my R1S time (1:46.02). This means that they are either super fast, or I drove the R1S like a newbie...actually it makes me mad, realizing I wasted the R1S last time out!

Next up is Laguna in September with Speed District. 14 sessions and less than 70 cars total..can't wait. Have prepared some special tires for the occasion! Also, have some few smaller mods in store for fun. Once that event is over, I will do a quick write of my experience with all the tires used so far including NT01, Cup2, RE71R, R1S and Michelin Slicks.
Tomorrow is an exciting day at Laguna with Speed District. A quick update on some neat upgrades for this track day!
Big thanks to Mooty for the new seat. It feels so much more secure than the previous seat, it really makes me feel like I will be able to push the car even more. Downside is that if I gain even a single pound I will need to throw it out. I feel like they would have to cut me out of the seat in case of an incident
This is a pretty random but sweet upgrade from a friend of mine. He re-created the cup backing plate for the cup steering wheel. The cool thing is that all those buttons operate the car's electronic functions such as brights, blinkers, as well as, the control panel with things such as sport mode, suspension, TC, lift, etc. Best part of all, unlike the cup car, this plate and buttons are wireless and disconnect with the steering wheel. Pretty sweet!
Last, but most important, a fresh set of Michelin slicks. Really curious to experience them and see how much faster they will be than my R1S.

buddy of mine has the skinny Recaro kevlar seats, you know the ones for 100lb race drivers, in his passenger seat. He's single. He calls the seat "Quality control"
With all those goodies, it better be a low 1:30's lap. No pressure! ;-)
Ideal target for my car, in my mind is 1:33. Anything around that for DE is fabulous for me.

No kidding...that seat fitment is brutal Stand21 had me try on Cooper MacNeil's racing suit, since he is 6'4 as well, but has a 30 waist vs. my 36-38. When I put the suit on, the Stand21 rep said "well at least you get to see just how stretchable the material is"!

Hah, totally true! Those tires are designed for ~45 min race, so expect one or two fast sessions.
