Default Is the gt3 a good candidate for a long term keeper?

Want to have something a bit special and that’s the GT3, don’t get me wrong, love my 991.2 but I will always want a GT3 but I am not dropping $200k on one, lol. I spent $107k on my new C2, and could sell it and pick up a pre-owned GT3 in the $90-$110k range. The caviat is I want this car to keep long term, I guess reading all the horror stories makes me concerned about purchasing a 5-10 year old GT3 with the idea to keep it another 10 years or so. I guess they can’t be any worse than the old air cooled cars, right? Proper maintenance and all good? My push here was I don’t know how much longer gas powered, NA GT3s will made. So I am sort of trying to plan ahead a bit. I know this is a big open ended question that I parked in the 997 gt3 forum, but there is not general all years GT forum. Btw, this would not be a track toy, just a weekend pleasure driver.

thanks

Any GT3, I have a 6/3, will, over the long term, hold its value over many 911s, I believe. As long as you can live with the suspension on the street, go for it.

Thanks, looks like the 997.2 GT3 has the least reported issues that I could find, the 991.1 have those potential motor issues lifters or something like that. Not sure if that’s just overblown or not.

Buy it
drive it
wash it
repeat.

Want appreciation? There are much better vehicles(pun not intended) for that.

Sure that would be nice, but I just like the aggressive look of the GT3, I have always loved the look of the wings, whale tail, duck bill. I just want a GT3 that I could keep possibly forever, lol. I guess I was thinking similar to the old 930s still on the road. I think the GT3s will be like them in 20-30 years. I just don’t want a mechanical nightmare, if that’s possible.

Both 7.1 and 7.2's are pretty stout. Some misc issues like coolant pipe fittings(easy fix to weld/pin) and the 7.2 cam bolts. Other than that they are strong engines.

So many different threads with similar questions being asked, look through those and I suspect your answer will be clearer and clearer the more you read.

Also, some seat time in one would help a bunch to decide if you like the GT3 platform - 996-997.1-997.2-991.1 are all unique in their own right.

They are not Honda Accords but considering how they are meant to be driven and what they give back they are pretty damn bulletproof.

-Do your research by reading the pages here
-Buy the best car you can find and afford
-Start loving it up
-Drive the snot out of it.
-Don'y worry about ROI. It's a Porsche GT car they don't lose value and some gain.
-The longer you wait the harder it is to get in

And, enjoy the process-

If you plan to collect cars, I would suggest to start thinking what exactly you want.
My experience, every car needs to be unique and has something different to stay with me longer.

No car is better than the other.
A higher Priced car does not mean its better.
A newer car is not always better.

Thats why Of all the porsches ive owned, my RS is the longest ived kept. Second only my 997TT. I owned 991 gt3 but did not last as long.

Vehicles was a figure of speech. Equities, real estate etc are far better than an actual automobile 9 times out of 10 for capital appreciation.

So true, and all the way back to day one........ So many different opinions and some will say that the Mezger engine was the most robust but it too had issues as has been mentioned here. Every used car I ever bought had $$$$ set aside for expected (and unexpected) repairs. Price range, mileage and maintenance will figure into your purchase decision.
