Manage to pull over before engine temp raise to dangerous level.....
Lucky I was 2 blocks away from home....
Look under car found oil leak....
Oil leak is pink/red .... thankfully not engine oil.....

so is this oil from the transmission or power steering ?

Looks like your water pump failed. Coolant is pink. Don't drive it. Have it towed to the shop.

In most cars, coolant that smells like oil and oil in the coolant is not a good thing. Usually means a failed head gasket. I dont know if this is the usual indicator on the 997 platform.

Take another sniff to see it if smells a little sweet. Coolant pump failure is fairly common on this car. Most water pumps have two weep holes. When coolant drips out its a warning sign that failure is near.

The drive belt breaking, combined with the pink drip in your photo seems like the water pump may have siezed, which then caused the belt to break since that pulley was no longer turning. I don't think you have anything worse than a water pump replacement. These cars always smell like oil. You can look in your coolant reservoir to see if there is any oily film or "milkshaking" going on, which would point to an intermix issue, but if the water pump has more than 40,000 miles on it, that's likely the only issue. Make sure when it's replaced, only a pump with plastic impeller is used, not with a metal impeller.

Thanks for the info guys, very informative.....

Does water pump make any noise before it fail ?
I seems to recall hearing squeaking noise occasionally when the engine is cold and it goes away in a few minutes after....

It can make some noise either from the bearing or if there's enough play in the bearing for the impeller to start contacting the block, there can be a scraping sound - this is also the reason you never use a pump with a metal impeller, as it can damage the block irreparably. With the plastic impeller, the contact will grind down the plastic impeller blades and not damage the metal block.

Does the OEM Porsche water pump use plastic impeller or do I need to go aftermarket for that ?

OEM pump has plastic impeller, as does the one sold by LN Engineering - there are other aftermarket ones with metal, which should be avoided. Install the 160 degree Low Temp Thermostat when the water pump is changed too.

I can't find a water pump on LN Engineering's website. Perhaps the pump is no longer available?
What's the thinking behind the 160ºF thermostat?

Porsche guys aren't very bright and if I put low temp on something and charge extra for it they will think my car will run cooler

Sorry, my pump must have come from Suncoast and the LTT from LN. LTT allows the engine to warm to operating temp more gradually since it opens sooner and helps spread the heat from the combustion process around and may help prevent bore scoring of the #3 & #6 cylinder since they're the ones furthest from the coolant flow once the thermostat starts opening and letting a greater volume of coolant to circulate. The are probably 100 threads here on this topic - you can read a few and make your own decision. I personally run LTTs in both my 997.1s
