Default Horn sound muted after a long honk. What needs replacement?

Yesterday, I hunked at someone and then after that my horn sounds like it's coming from a Prius! It still hunks BUT at a much higher pitch and lower sound.

What could be it? Fuse blown? or something else needs to be replaced?

Bad horn. Common issue with these cars. Not particularly expensive but I think they're a minor PITA to get to. They're behind the front bumper cover.

There are louder aftermarket horns available, too.

Mine went out but it was right after I got my car so IIRC, the dealer replaced it under my CPO.

They sure sound wimpy when they go out, don't they?

So, it's actually the horn and not a fuse? How do I check the fuse to ensure it's not it.

Low tone horn stopped working on mine and it sounded like a Prius. Dealer replaced both horns under CPO. And yes, front bumper has to come off.

Anyway to reach it without bumper coming off?

Unfortunately no. Front bumper has to come off. The following thread from Bruce In Philly should help:

Ok. Weirdly my horn is back fully! It sounds normal just like before. Wtf. I didn't do anything. Just had a cpl of filters replaced and spark plugs, nothing to do with horn. How could it be?

Alexb76 - same story for me a few years back. Good horn, pirus horn, then back to normal dual tone. Was all prepared to follow B.i.P. write up and cancelled the plans as everything was back up and running. I assume mine was a bad ground, or corroded contacts.

Corrosion doesn't fix itself. If it appeared for a short time and disappeared forever, you both probably had some debris stuck in the diaphragm of the low tone. The debris dislodged and now you're set.

Interesting... mine basically gave up after a long horn, but now back. Could it have over-heated? If it was debris, not sure a long horn could have caused it, no?
