Default Good hands position to prepare for counter-steer

Just want to see what hands position others are using to get quick reaction time for counter-steer (in case the tail started to come around). I think the best would still be the traditional 9 and 3 positions but sometime that don't work for tight turns....

I find that if I pre-position my hands in 12 and 6 positions to execute a tight turn then it is very clumsy to execute counter-steer if I want to avoid the hand-over-hand method.... so I am open other ideas ....

Anyone have a link to a good instructional video or article ?
I wonder how the best rally drivers do it....

The answer is always 9 & 3. Google ( or youtube) "shuffle steer"

Whatever is most comfortable for you, as long as it's in the range of 10-2/4:30-8:30, with 9-3 being optimal.

There is a you new tube video floating around of a 7:16:04 nurburgring lap in the new Camaro ZL1 1LE. Check it out. there are dozens out like it with other cars and other drivers. The driver in this video is obviously a damn good one. His left hand never moved from 9 o'clock the entire time. The only time his right hand left 3 o'clock was when he removed it from the steering wheel to shift gears, after which he promptly replaced said hand on the wheel at...3 o'clock.

I don't think it makes much difference if you start the turn with your hands at 9-3, 12-6, or whatever, because they are opposite each other, and where they end up during a turn is dependent on the turn itself. That is, if you start at 12-6, and turn the wheel a 1/4, you are at 9-3. Turn another 1/4, and you are at 6-12. If the turn is so tight you need to hand-over-hand to get the car turned, you are probably going so slow that you won't need to countersteer. If you do, it's likely bad driving, not bad countersteering.

If you are oversteering because of trailing throttle, you probably don't need countersteer either.

IMO, the timing and amount of the countersteer is more important than hand position anyway.

I'd like to explore this a bit more [I guess I didn't ask the right question that I wanted help with]..... What I should have asked was what hands position and/or steering method promote the best reaction time in a trailing throttle drifting transition from side to side situation ?

Answer is still this!

BTW the days of 911s swapping ends with a throttle lift are over unless you are doing something really stupid in really bad conditions.

Are we talking track or street? On the track at speed, you rarely turn the wheel more the 90 deg, i.e., right hand at 3 goes to 12 or 6. See the video on post #9 and tell me how many times he turns the wheel more than 90 deg.

One additional point to reinforce the 9-3 config... you do NOT want your arms or wrist over the airbag if there were to be an incident and a deployment.
