Default Sini (?) oil...but more importantly the weight

Not trying to start an oil war, so this is just my specific experience.

2009 Carrera S, 52K miles. Had Mobil 1, 0 weight last summer. Lost a quart in 2000 miles.

This season took it into local P car independent and he recommended this Sini oil-A40 rated and all but 5w30. Indy swore on it up and down.

Well we are just about 1000 miles past it, and the oil gauge has not budged one LED from full.

We did look for a leak at the change, and it was dry as a bone...

Take it for what its worth.

JGR DT40 (with a splash of DT50 in the summer).

I use Motul Xcess 8100, but thinking of switching to JGR DT40

I was considering the Mobil 1 Euro, but think the JGR DT40 will be better.

I think a really good poll would be interesting. Consider starting over and adding the JGR DT40 and Liqui-Moly, plus Mobil 1 standard, and Mobil 1 Euro separately, and even breaking Motul out to 8100 and Motul-other. Others may have additional suggestions.

Regarding the Mobil 1, I'd bet you'd find almost a 50/50 split in the answers above, whether people who say they use Mobil 1 are using the standard version vs the Euro formula. They are different oils with different specs, and different pricing, so not really that useful to have them lumped together as this poll seems to do. IMHO of course!

I use Mobil 1 5w50; it has Porsche's A40 approval. Buy it on Amazon because it is hard to find in retail stores in my area.

JGR DT50 15w50 is used in my air-cooled 911.

  • DT40 in both 997s
  • DT50 in the 914 & 928
  • Motul 8100 xcess in the 2009 Cayenne Accident Turbo S & GMC Sierra, but both of these will be switched over to the DT40 when the Motul is gone for inventory simplicity
  • K&N Filters on all
I've tried many oils in the 997s and done UOA on all of them. The DT40 comes back the best with the highest Zinc & Phosphorous levels remaining and the best TAN & TBN

Currently with Mobil 1 0w-40 European Formula, but my engine (09' C2S) goes through oil quickly, goes down around 2 bars in between oil changes. I find myself adding 1-2 bars worth of oil. I've gotten the oil consumption test done when my car was under CPO warranty and they did not find anything.

So I'm definitely looking to switch to a different oil myself.

Liqui Moly 5W-40 seems like the most cost effective, just slightly more than Mobil 1 0w-40 euro formula.

Anyone have input on Liqui Moly and oil consumption?

My car doesn't ever burn a drop on Liqui Moly 5w-40. Not in daily use, not city, highway, or track.

The sad part is I've burned that much oil and put less than 5000 miles on the car since start of ownership in May 2015.

Sorry to thread jack, but is the oil change for the 997.1 and 997.2 exactly the same as seen in this thread?
