Door Lock Mechanism Microswitch Replacement Door Panel Removal
I had an issue where when I pulled the inside door handle the window would go down about half an inch as normal, but as soon as I opened the door it would go back up. This was a problem because the window would hit the frame when I closed the door. After doing some research I pinpointed it to a microswitch in the door lock mechanism. After finding not video's or instructions on how to replace this I decided to tackle it myself and make a video.
It's a long video as I wanted to create a true step by step. This should help anyone wanted to replace an air bag, remove a side panel, repair a door latch, window regulator, door lock, micro switch, etc.

I added some notes in the description in the video if you are doing the driver side door. There is a stick that needs to be reinserted from the outside door lock that goes into the door lock mechanism. I think I mention it in the video, but never go into detail.

Thanks!!
This really helped me - in the process of replacing my RHD drivers side door lock mechanism (just need the part to arrive from Hong Kong), was a mission getting it out but then read your comment on the key barrel lock component. Thanks man.
Will also update this thread on the usability of an eBay sourced part - is 10% of the part cost compared with me sourcing locally via Porsche or VW. https://www.ebay.com/itm/252739729664

NZ, if the door lock mechanism you've ordered doesn't work or won't fit right can't you just take the micro switch (if that's the issue) off of it and install on your old one? R.

Fitted today - worked perfectly. Other than a string of characters on one part of plastic, and different plating/coating on the metal, it looks identical to the old part.

Hi there. Great video. I am having similar issues. Question, is your lock going out too or is it all windows? I am trying to narrow down the issue. Here is what I have...Passenger side door is having issues.
- window always can roll all the way up and down. No funky noise and works perfect every time.
- Window drop is intermittent. When it works. It all works (half handle pulls on interior and exterior drop it til you let it go. Full pulls drop it til the door closes.
- passenger side door locking (with fob or manual) is also Intermittent.
- the window drop issue and unlock issue always happen seemingly at the same time. They also always work at the same time.
I've ruled out micro switches because of the last point above. It seems like there is a singular issue that is impacting both systems. Could this be a latch sensor? A loose cable some where maybe?
Open to your thoughts.

Well the lock mechanism seems to be a common issue. Since I made that video I haven’t had any issues, so it’s been good for several years. The lock mechanism is what controls the lock and the micro switches for the window and door so that may be the culprit. The door latch is also something that can go bad, but I’m not sure that would prevent the door from locking unless it doesn’t close completely. When this happens again, try pressing on the door latch to see if that gives you a different outcome.

I can verify the "($25) Front Left Driver Door Lock Actuator for Porsche Cayenne / Volkswagen Touareg " worked on my 2007 997.1 GT3.
