Default Which outlet is not directly connected to the battery?

I've checked all my car adapter outlets, and they all seem to go directly to the battery. The only problem with this is I have to manually control my dashcam or it will slowly drain the battery.

Am i crazy or is one of these supposed to activated on startup? Search function says so, but I tested all of them with the car off and no key in ignition.

Those outlets are not switched - always live.

If one uses a cockpit outlet to charge the battery the cigarette lighter outlet is the recommended one (adequate fusing).

Try searching for threads discussing radar detector hard wiring - you could do the same with a dashcam. I bought hardwire kits for my dashcam from eBay.

You could either capture a switched 12v circuit from the overhead console with a wire tap (this is what I did for the radar detector in my wife's 997) or from the side fuse panel with an add-a-fuse adapter and run it up the inside of the A-pillar. You could an access a wireway here just by removing that part of the door seal.

Check # 6 and #8 in the Mod DIY section of the DIY/Tech Index thread above.

There's another thread describing using an empty slot in the fuse box, which I used, but can't find it.

This I did not know. Explains why I have to turn off my XM head unit after shut down.

Quick Reply: Which outlet is not directly connected to the battery?
