1st time buyer Porsche 997
Hey all
was wondering if you would help me with tips on what I would need to look for when buying a pre owned 997. Would like to see the best I can get for low $40s, cabriolet, low mileage, babied car... From 2006 onwards
Have done some checking online, cars Edmunds, eBay... And also learned about PPI and some other aspects. What I've seen is that below 40 I would be able to get a high 50k miles.... If I throw in few thousands more, can go to 20-30k miles....
Any recommendation on whether or not to privilege Porsche dealerships?
Thanks a lot! Just spoke to great people in my journey to get my first Porsche

Personally I would go for 997.2 or maybe stretch a bit more for a Turbo. Mileage doesn't really bother me as it would for most Porsche buyers as long as the car was well maintained and I see no real difference between a 40k mi car vs 70k mi car. It's more important to me to get the car in the configuration that I want.

As alexisthemovie say's get a 997.2 and I would even add to go for either the S or 4S if Turbo is not your thing. The PDK is amazingly fast and you'll get even more out of the engine/performance if you an find a specimen with the Chrono Sport pack.
I went from a 2002.02 996 C4S manual to a 2009.02 997.2 C4S PDK with the Chrono Sport and OMG what a difference. It's a beast!
Mileage shouldn't really matter with the 9A1 engines as long (and again as alexisthemovie say) you have full service history and/or get it from Porsche with a pre-owned warranty (which I did). I didn't do a PPI in either of my 911 car purchases but I bought from Porsche brand dealers in Switzerland with full warranty (nothing with small writing) so had nothing to worry about.

I just went through this and looked for quite some time. As a point of reference, I purchased a very clean 2006 C2S w/Sport Chrono 57Kmi for $32K (private party.) I think you can do better (price-wise) than you have indicated if you are looking at a non-dealer/non-CPO car.
For low 40's for a 997.1 I would think you could get both an 'S' and lower mileage (~30K-ish) for $42-$44K.

This one just popped up -- seems in the amazing deal range. 2006 C2S, 48Kmi, $36.5K ask. Offer $34.5K, meet in the middle, get a PPI and get it shipped! Does not have Sport Chrono, but looks pretty clean. Just an example if I think what can be had if you're patient.

Three Wheelin'
I think for low 40s you could get a 2006-2008 C2S cab (typically ~10% less than coupes) with <40k miles. Or you could stretch for a base 997.2 while higher miles.
For reference I purchased my 2006 C2 couple 6sp with 40k miles for $32k. Texas cars are cheaper.
Good luck!

Still looking... Most options I have seen in cars.com and eBay mostly there are some cabs 05 06 for high 20's, a high mileage a 991 with high mileage for high 40's, and a 2007 S with ok miles, Porsche dealer, really liked, but this cab has been in an accident front and back and had 9 owners.... So, I heard that cabs with accidents can be a problem as the cover is milimetrically sensitive... And 9 owners.. doesn't sound ideal

Cant speak about the 997, but the 964 cabs had to have the body perfectly aligned for the bows in the cab to work properly. I sold a perfect 964 cab to a guy. He got rear ended on the drive home. His new car spent 5 weeks in the body shop. When he went to pick it up, they put the top up and everything binded, failed miserably. The insurance company cut him a check on the spot for full purchase price plus taxes etc.
Two years later, the guy I bought it from wanted to buy it back....I had to break the bad news to him. She was dead.
So yea, I would avoid a cab with multiple accidents unless its had a colonoscopy.
