Default Missing my 997.1 - advice needed

After 10 years with my 997.1 (and loving it everytime I drove it) I decided to
move to a 991GTS. I was concerned that it would be my last change to get a NA engine. That was my mistake number 1.
At the same time I was reading about how the PDK was a fantastic transmission (and it is!) and decided to go with it. That was my mistake number 2.
The last was that I didn't drive a 991 with PDK and with electric steering. That was my mistake number 3 and by far the worst mistake.

So I now in the market to find a 997.1.
https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...l#post14145098

So far I have restricted my search to 997.1, but will try to get a test drive on a 997.2 and perhaps expand my search.

Is the driving experience very different between the 997.1 and 997.2? I heard that the 997.2 is more "planted" than the 997.1. Is that the major difference?
What about the feedback through the steering wheel? what about he sound (I had the normal exhaust with the vacum plugged)?

Should I considr the 997.2 GTS?

Thank you for any advice or if you have the Unicorn that I'm looking for, please PM me.

The 997.1 & 997.2 are very similar. The 997.2 has the better better DFI engine and the PASM system is updated. It's supposed to be a little smoother on the road but I've driven one and didn't notice a difference to be honest. The 997.2 was the first PDK and thus there aren't as many manuals to choose from. A 997.2 GTS in a manual is a rare and beautiful thing. If you can find one and afford it... go for it.
If you plan on keeping the car I'd probably go with a 997.2 car if you find one you like. The lack of IMS and the better oiling system gave it a better engine. That being said, I love my 997.1 and for the cost of stepping into a 997.2, I'll pass. I occasionally track my car and when the stock suspension goes, I'll put in something else that would outperform the 997.2 PASM anyways so it's a non issue. The engine, it's a concern but mine has 85k miles on it and compression and leakdown numbers are good. At some point I'll need to replace or rebuild it and when that tie comes... it'll hurt but it'll be awesome when it's done. Vision or Flat6 has these things pretty sorted out a this point.

At least for the 4S the .2 suspension is less "floaty" in the front. The PCM controls age much better (mine look brand new even after 37k miles... I have seen .1s that looked really bad after just 15k miles. Engine is an upgrade, stock sound is a downgrade. I remedied that sound issue with fister sides and sharkwerks center. Sounds wicked now and no drone.

I test drove several 991s and the only model that didnt suffer from noticeably worse steering feel was the gt3...

I think GTS is a good buy right now.

Good luck,

I had a .1 4S and now a .24S and the main difference to me is that the .1 was a bit more raw feeling. The suspension and engine on the .2 is better and the steering feels about the same. Better PCM on the .2 and it's fine as is if it comes with Bluetooth and XM and Nav. .2 so far seems far less susceptible to bore scoring than the .1. I would not turn away from a good deal on a .1 though if I was you. The 997 GTS in a 6 speed would be great or even better in a GTS4. But they seem rarer than GT3 and Turbos now.

Sounds like you're looking for my car. I'm sorry to say it's not for sale but good luck in your search!

2006 C4S Cabriolet
GT Silver exterior
Natural leather cocoa interior
PCCB
X51 Powerkit
Sports Exhaust
Sports Shifter
Sport Chrono Plus
Bose

It is definitely rare to find all these options as the sticker price was in turbo territory and beyond but it will be worth it when you find your unicorn!

Wportervt,

You don't know how right you are!
My 2006 was a GT Siver C4S, with x51, natural terracota leather and a lot of other options!

Hold on to your car! They are terrific and the driver involvement is so much greater than a 991.
Hopefully the "right car" will come by and then my only concern will be with garage space

Pcosta-Thanks for the post. I bouht my 997.1 6 spd almost 2 years ago and love it. I occasionally window shop online and get tempted. Your post is the perfect reality response to my daydream shopping. I have driven a few 991 manuals and like many things about them but it's a different car than a 997.

Had the pleasure to drive the 991.2 c2s/turbo, 981.2 boxster, gt3-rs at the PSDS in Birmingham. They are great cars - all of them. However, for my purposes and driving wants, it was great to come back home to my 2011 c4s. My wife has the 2012 Black Ed. c2 (both 997.2, but latter is even more fun to drive). We will be holding on to these cars until they dissolve into the earth.

Good luck with your search - am sure you will find something great.

and YES, you should absolutely consider the 997.2 GTS.

.1 is more raw feeling and the .2 DFI engine is quieter and is harder to make it sound as good as the .1 engine IMO.

Johnny DB--I agree that the .1 sounds better. I drove a 997.2 GTS w/ PSE recently and preferred my car with no PSE.

So true! People rarely talk about that on here.

The direct injection of the .2 makes the exhaust note sound tame.

997.2 GTS is my opinion on the subject...but I'm likely biased.

Hi GTS Sully,

I would be inclined to get GTS, but they are really hard to come by.
And sometimes they have mods, or are in a color I don't want, or have been tracked...
But I'm still looking at them.

Thanks
