Default A idiot and his warning lights

Let me lead off by saying I'm capable of driving a Porsche (2006 Cab 4S) ....I can even put gas in it without spilling! However when it comes to anything mechanical I am the type that picks up the phone and makes a appointment to take it to my local Indy shop.

So I started to get a "service is due in 29 days" and of course it was counting down each day and annoying the hell out of me as I knew the car was fully serviced at the first of the year. The mech just sent it out without doing the reset. Of course he would have done it for free but it meant taking time out of my busy days.

So after a little online research I ordered a "icarsoft" diagnosis tool. After reading for a few minutes, finding out where to plug it in, and just a little of my time I did a reset and also was able to search for any fault codes, of which there were none. It made me feel so good to actually do SOMETHING on my own. Cleared the codes and most importantly the car actually fired up and ran great after I unplugged the unit.

Im sure this thing cost too much for what it does (I think I paid a little over $200) but I must say it was pretty idiot proof....which is what I needed

I was so afraid to plug it in and get into the system with my lack of knowledge. It was a big sigh of relief after I unplugged it and everything still operated correctly

Good for you! Fortunately, the modern Porsche is very reliable and the maintenance on them is we'll spaced and minimal in nature; so, your inability to take on things mechanical should not be detrimental.

Eventually, you will get an idiot light to come on; so, having the code reader will provide you a lot of information as to whether you need to take the car in or not. And, the ability to reset codes gets rid of the nuisances of idiot lights every time you start the car.

Just pay heed to the codes you receive. They are usually accurate.

Very good advice - when both my AOS and waterpump failed the 997 gave me an immediate "take to workshop" light on dash. That's all she had to say, problem solved.

Sorry at work right now so don't have all the info. It is a icarsoft I believe and came from England in about 10 days. Easy payment through PayPal. Very good email support when I was asking questions before purchase

since you do most of your work at indy, how much on average does it cost you for normal service a year?
