I have not replaced the drive belt on my newly acquired 997tt. However, it appears to be relatively easy to do. The job involves removal of the inlet air plumbing on the top of the engine which opens up the backside of the engine where the drive belt resides. Once that is done, you simply take the load off the belt by rotating the tensioner and the belt is then slipped off the engine. Installation of the new belt is the reverse of the above procedure.

Though I have not done this job yet, it appears to be a Saturday morning job.

Takes 5 minutes. So easy and cheap, 6 years seems like an unnecessarily long interval.

I think he meant to say "airbox," instead of airbag. (Auto-correct likes to add it's own thoughts).

Taking one out and putting one in is child's play. However, definitely check the come-along rollers and the tensioner roller for wear while you have them exposed.

Love that spell check. Should have been "inlet air plumbing". Edited the post. Thanks for catching it.

Thank you for coming to my defense! I edited the post and replaced "airbag" (which was typed in as "airbox"), with "inlet air plumbing". At any rate, gaining access to the belt is very easy!

I just replaced mine 6 years after the build date. Had it done at the dealer since my car still has CPO warranty and want to avoid any headaches in case something happens. $400.

You might want to take a picture of the routing of the belt before you take it off. It will come in handy with the new belt.

On a 997.2 its a bumper off job. Definitely not a five minute job....

Just had mine done at the dealer. Bumper and lights out to get at one bolt. Took the tech 1.2 hrs + belt cost + tax = $ 315.00 Can

Didn't know it was different from 997.1 to 997.2. However this thread link makes it seem like you just need to remove the license plate for access.

Not sure about all this bumper off talk is about. I have a 997.2 and replacing the belt was very easy without messing with the bumper. As stated above, air box out and release tension off the belt via tensioner. Good idea to take a picture of the belt routing.
