I have the official repair manual for the 997.2. Three steps

1-remove air box

2-rotate tensioner clockwise and remove belt from pulleys

3-remove engine support bolt through rear bumper and pull out belt

For some reason says to remove the belt before the bolt

Oh-and the video on line in German with the guy who I loosens the torx bolt on the tensioner - is wrong. You don't need to unloosen it

If you remove the rear license plate, you can see a bolt through a hole. Using a long extension and a 16mm socket the bolt can be removed. A long reach magnet is helpful. A 5 minute job to remove the bolt. 30 minutes tops to do the whole job. Here's a link to the correct replacement belt:

I keep a spare belt in the frunk.

This. Simple quick job if you have the right tools (32 mm wrench if I recall correctly for the tensioner pulley). The biggest trick is folding the belt over just the right way to extract the old and insert the new. Someone above the motor with someone below helps to get the new one in. The new belt is barely long enough to go on with the tensioner fully moved.

The job involves removal of the inlet air plumbing on the top of the engine which opens up the backside of the engine where the drive belt resides. Once that is done, you simply take the load off the belt by rotating the tensioner and the belt is then slipped off the engine. Installation of the new belt is the reverse of the above procedure.

Though I have not done this job yet, it appears to be a Saturday morning job.
Its not impossible by any stretch, but the engine carrier is pretty tight to the pullies. Its no picnic though.

Just had mine done at the dealer. Bumper and lights out to get at one bolt. Took the tech 1.2 hrs + belt cost + tax = $ 315.00 Can
Just to clarify, it does not require removing the bumper on a 997.2. There is an access hole especially for this under the license plate. You just have to remove the license plate and have a long extension.

Agree that is pretty easy but feeding the belt into place is a bit tight like Quadcammer stated. It's a little easier to feed the belt onto the pulleys with someone working below and someone working above in my opinion. My son and I did it in what was probably twenty minutes or so.

Noooo. You only have to take out the airbox, that's it.
This video isn't too bad. It's quite easy.

I see that OP appears to be talking about a 997.1 from his avatar photo so good catch on clarifying that the 997.1 is easier.

It wasn't clear from the original text which model was being addressed, so some of us were addressing the 997.2. The gap between the lower pulleys and the engine carrier is pretty tight on a 997.2 and takes a little more effort to slip the belt in. Still not a big deal, but not as easy as what I see in that video.

Good for you. I'm not going to question the senior techs at my local P dealership. I trust them, they service the car,I pay the bill, that's it.

For the 997.2, good instructions here (I did mine no problems, but you will need a long ratchet extension):

https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...t-options.html
and
https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...ge-2009-a.html

It was fiddly, and you may think the new belt is too short... keep at it.

Peace

Personally, I wouldn't trust anything made of rubber for more than three years.
