Default Emissions monitors not ready

After driving over 500 miles and at least 6 full driving cycles since the battery in my car (2005 C2) was replaced, Durametric still shows the secondary air injection and oxygen sensors as not ready. There is no CEL nor any fault codes. The car is due for NYS emissions testing soon and it will not pass with two systems in the not ready status. I wonder what else can be done other than keep driving it hoping that the monitors will reset. TIA.

You may want to try the drive cycle for 996 here. It may work for your 997. Good luck!

Does your car have an aftermarket tune in it? Thats been known to happen, the flags you see get set, with an aftermarket tune that does not turn off the readiness indicators. I won't name the company in here, but it can happen in Audis.

Thank you. Yes, that is the cycle that I followed pretty closely but not perfectly since it is impossible to do it on public roads. At all times I stayed below 60 mph and 3000 rpm.

It has crossed my mind. I don't think so but I don't know for sure. I got the car fairly recently and it is dead stock as far as I can tell. Is there a way to check?

Have you tried activating the SAI pump with Durametric (under DME/Activation)?

You can use Durametric to display the O2 sensor voltage at cold star (under DME/Actual values). The precat should start at 0.44v and within 10-15s it should taper to ~0v. The post-cat will be lagging behind the preact reading for about 2+ min.

If the pre-cat readings don't go to a very low value, the fresh air is not there or not detected.

I had this happen in a 2009 Cayman. Took forever to set all of them. I'd keep driving. I also think the dealer can help.

Anytime. Usually nothing is wrong because a CEL would have been tripped. The tests are just to confirm that's indeed the case so you can focus on putting more miles on it.

You can get a 30 day extension to get it to ready state. If not, you probably have some type of tune, aftermarket header, cats possibly that is causing the issue.

we had the same issue when i bought my 997. The seller was told by the smog station to drive it around to reset the monitors. Instead, he took it to the Porsche dealership and they took care of everything. The seller said that the dealership had a way to do the simulate the cycle. They got all the monitors ready and smogged the vehicle for us to complete the transaction. You may want to give your SA a call and see if they can help.

There is no special tool they use, they just drive it all day, have a ODBII reader bluetooth to their phones, drive it until it shows ready. That same ODBII adapter is less than $25 on Amazon.com. My Porsche server advisor is a Porsche guy and part of the local PCA club. He pretty much told me, just drive it until it's ready, assuming everything is stock.

Actually there is. The dealers use the Porsceh-specific scanners (PIWIS or PST2), which can force these emission tests to run on-demand, as opposed to naturally triggered by drive cycles. An OBDII scanner can never do that.

I spoke with my local dealer service advisor today who told me that in most cases their software can force system readiness but not always. He did not elaborate but he suggested that I keep driving it. In any case I setup an appointment for late next week in the event it does not reset on its own until then.
