Oil level check

Oil level check
Fairly new to 997 ownership. All is good so far except for one thing that is driving me crazy. To check the engine oil level the car has to be on perfectly level ground. Leaning a few degrees to the left, oil level shows way too low. Leaning to the right, way too high. I wonder if this is normal or the oil level sensor in my car is bad. Any thoughts? TIA

I truly hate the electronic dipstick in my Cayman.
Did an OC this past weekend. Initially added 7.5 qts. and while in garage (and assume level), it showed 2 bars low (representing .8 qts) so I slowly added oil. Took multiple readings in garage after drives and finally added 5 oz. (while it showed 1 bar low) to get a full reading while at work yesterday. This is in a parking garage that sure looks level.
Anyway, got home last night and took a reading and it shows 1 bar low. Took a reading this a.m. in my work parking garage and sure enough it shows 1 bar low.
I've added 8.6 qts. and I'm done adding oil.
What a PITA to do something that should be so simple.

This is one time I was hoping that something is wrong with my car. It sounds like it is not the case. Obviously a problematic design. I wonder if the fact that it is so difficult to get an accourate oil level reading, contributes to some of the known issues with these engines.

You mean 1 square bar?
The whole bar is equal to ~1.25qt
When you reach the low level mark you still have ~7.xx qts of oil left. then you take that extra quart jug of oil you have in the frunk to top it off.

Probably consistent but not very accurate. If 3 degrees of slope move the gauge by .8 quart you never know if you are too low or too high.

Really, you don't need to race and top it off as soon as it starts to go down. It will tell you when to add a full quart.
Unless you're really skilled in adding just the right amount, you might overfill if you're just trying to get that last bar back up to full...

this has gone shareable .....along with the tilt of the car for draining oil and the degrees of opening bleeders so as not to get back feeding bubbles ..............bubbles ...............po people be strange . dude if you do not feel comfortable checking your oil level go to a dealer....they are used to your kind and they need a laugh

If parked level in my garage after work will read full
When getting gas at one of the pumps, the front tires are on new concrete about maybe 2cm above the rears so car is tilted backwards, not sure how much. If I check the oil before fill up there it can read either at the bottom or 1/3 bars up, 2 less than full.

Antonio, welcome to 997 ownership and awesome avatar
Do you have a 997.1 or 997.2 as the oil checking process and protocol is different between the 2 generations.
