Scared ****less - IMS Solution
Hi there,
I have a 997.1 C2S with an 04 build date M97.
Car has had no problems other than the replacement of the Clutch Slave Cylinder and other routine maintenance.
Car has done 90,000 kilometers and the oil has been replaced every 6 months.
I've read enough on these forums to scare me ****less that the IMS will fail. In fact, all I think about now when I drive the car is that it's going to stall and you know the rest.
So, I've parked her up until I install the IMS Solution.
Has anyone had any experience with the IMS Solution and does it affect the car in any detrimental fashion or otherwise?
Any opinions and feedback welcomed.
Its a shame that such a beautiful model is susceptible to catastrophic failure.
I just do not want to take the chance.
The other option is to sell.
Thanking you in advance

I'll preface this by saying I can't help you. I have September 04 car. Curious what month was your car was manufactured ? Typically, the M97 has a non-replaceable IMS bearing(at least without block surgery). I've heard about M97s with replaceable bearings but wonder if any of those found their way to US shores or were they row cars?

With a build date that early, you almost certainly have the small IMS bearing. Personally, I would change it immediately and then never worry about it again. At 90,000 kms, you're not past a point of potential failure - actually no small bearing car ever is, but don't sell it - invest $2,500 and then enjoy the heck out of it with a lot more peace of mind. Who knows, maybe you'll get in there and find out you got one of the early larger bearings, and then you won't have to install anything. At your mileage, once you've pulled the tranny for the bearing, you should probably install a new clutch - then you're good for another 90,000 kms at least.

On second thoughts ...
Which IMS Kit do you recommend?
My Porsche is 997.1 tiptronic c2s with 150,000 km.
(Of course I'd love to hear any opinion)

Well, 150,000 km is over 90,000 miles. In my opinion, you might be in the safe zone. But i guess it would't hurt to replace the IMS to help you sleep better at night.
