Did you purchase a used car warranty
If you did from who?
My 335i is sold, I'm getting another 997.2. Coup this time, this coming Monday. The car has 64K miles with a great service history, and she was owned by an enthusiast. Paint is near perfect, and the inside looks new. So, with the kinda high mileage I thought it might be a good idea for get a warranty. your thoughts please
Thanks again, Don

My GT3 came with one. I used it twice which saved me less than the previous owner paid for the warranty. Clutch fork wear and a hose burst.
When I added the 997 to my garage I considered the warranty but decided that barring catastrophic engine failure it was unlikely to pay out. If these warranties covered clutch wear, brake pads and PCCB rotors I would consider it.

I got a warranty from us auto protect from my dealer. $ 5300
the coverage was 10 year and additional 125,000 miles full excutionary warranty.
Been in the shop for a few thing and no problem on the shop getting paid.
Bought my car in 2016 . It a 2009 4CS Cab. 997.2

No
Have had to replace a fuel pump that was under shop campaign when my car was sold and have done coils. No other problems in 4 years of ownership and my car is DD and has done a dozen track days.
Bought it with 10k on it and have added another 25k.
Dealer refused to CPO because, well, Motorwerks Barrington sucks.

Three Wheelin'
Nope....
Spent $300 on a very intense PPI almost three years ago and other than regular maintenance and some preventative maintenance, zero issues.
At the time it would have run me nearly $6K for a 4yr/50K Platinum warranty and I decided to do a thorough PPI and roll the dice.

Just bought 2008 997 tip car with 8k miles. 3k for 6 year 60k warranty. Seemed like a reasonable trade off. 250.00 deductible.

2010 C4S Cab, bought about 18 months ago with ~16k miles.
No warranty. Did PPI, came up super-clean.
Now ~21k miles. Knock on wood, no major issues yet.
I agonize about whether I'm doing the "right thing" by not getting a warranty. I don't think there is ANY consensus answer to this... You will find 4 opinions for every 3 people you ask...
Sorry, doubt this is helpful to you.
Congrats on the new-to-you 997!

Now my GTS is in the shop. The A/C stopped cooling and it was determined that freon was leaking somewhere. They added freon and dye and two weeks later I was back with the same problem. They found the leak and kept the car. The dash had to be taken apart and parts ordered from Germany. It'll be almost 2 weeks by the time I get her back. Total cost is estimated at between $5K and $6K. Covered by CPO.
I will not own one of these cars (especially with PDK) without warranty.

I've got the same ride as jsalah - 2010 C4S Cab MT. I bought it CPO'd in 2013 with 30k on the clock, and it just fell out of CPO coverage a few months ago with 70k (it's been my DD for the last 3 years). Other than a HPFP replacement and a torn CV boot - all covered under CPO - this car has been bulletproof. I really only looked at CPO cars as I valued the peace of mind that comes with the dealer coverage, but I won't be purchasing any aftermarket coverage now that the CPO has ended.

You'll get different answers on this based on how lucky/unlucky the respondent has been. On my third 997 now and I have to say they're the most reliable cars I ever owned. I say that even though I've had some unusual bad luck with two of them. On the -09 C4S, the PDK developed a software problem and had to be replaced. Tab came to $14,000 and was covered by extended warranty. Next on the same car was a blown water pump that took the serpentine belt with it. Cost of that was close to $2,000 as I recall it. Also covered by the same policy.
