Default 997S intake crack

Thought i'd share as a data point. Couple weeks back Florida got a deep freeze about 28F (very unusual here). Anyway that night i'm idling in the parking lot and CEL starts flashing. I immediately shut it down. Later I start back up CEL is now constant so I coast 7 miles back home to my garage and pull the codes. Misfires in all cylinders and when I start it back up smoke coming from engine - very dramatic. Called in a flatbed and had delivered to my Porsche tech next day.

He found the intake had split in intake air bellows between intake plenum. Part was ordered (Intake manifold air bellows - $104.35) - couple of hours of labor and car is running great.

When is the last time you changed out the air filter? That is about the only thing that could cause enough torque on that pipe to split it. I doubt cold temps would solely be responsible for the split.

Good that it is fixed and ready to roll!

Take a pic of that cracked/split boot and post it up. Great piece of learning for others in case of similar occurrence.

When plastic or rubber components split or crack it is usually from age and heat. Being a Florida car I'd say the component became brittle from years of heat exposure. The cold temp may have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

Heat is the enemy of engine plastics, not cold. Glad it was a cheap fix.
