I called all the major P-car dealers in the D.C. area for 40k service prices on my 997.2. The variance was something:

1450, 1790, 1900, 2650

Indy prices are smack in the middle of that range (and no, I can't DIY).

Did you compare the line items? 40K is oil and filter, spark plugs, pollen filter, brake fluid flush and fill, check this and that....I had my yearly done at Tysons and it was 600 or so. I have got dealers to almost match indy prices but you have to ask.

Indies are quoting you in that range? It's basically an oil change, brake fluid, and spark plugs. Should take them a couple of hours tops. The 40,000 mile service on my 997.2 was about $600 or $700 at a reputable indy shop. Dealer quotes for same were within the range specified in the original post.

Gotta be careful with those Indies - sometimes they know they're the only decent alternative for the dealer, and as a result, you pay for it.

My AOS replacement (996) was quoted at $900 by the dealer and $1150 by my Indy. (CAD)

go to the closest dealer that gives you the best loaner po. Tell them no brake flush and no cabin filter....that right there will save at least 300 bucks. i would also re-think the plug change too .

For that matter, if it is less than 2 years, you don't even need brake fluid flushed. Or are you the kind of person that doesn't even look at your last service invoice and tell the shop, "I don't need that" :-)

Furthermore, With all due respect. What is your point?

Do you want every item on the Porsche 40K list check-boxed? Why??

Do you want to spend the minimum amount of money? Then you have compare all the apples and oranges.

Do you want only the "Truely" necessary work done? (Pollen filter?? Come On!!! )

And if you do accept the loaner. Take a pile of photo's of the vehicle before you leave. Scuffed rim? That was there when I got it? SEE ! I do that every time vacation rental cars. Wife thinks I'm crazy. (and I could be).
I rented a pick up truck once. Drove it home for 15 minutes, then back the next morning for 15 minute.
The 8oo dollar air dam was missing. After 3o minutes of negotiating, manager overheard the battle, mention it had been missing for weeks. That would have been an expensive oil change at the dealer.

To close out my experience - the dealer closest to me accepted the lowest price from another local P-car dealer. Saved $500 with a few calls. Shop around - the fat in the pricing is something else.

Go to Intersport - stay away from Porsche of Arlington - only time I overpaid in 8 years of ownership was when I had them do a service. They also tried to tell me my lifters were failing and needed to be replaced in 2012 - there was nothing wrong with them and I declined - 92,000 miles later stock lifters are still great. Dodged a bullet there.

I just pay for the parts, learning to be handy is both fun and cheaper.

The satisfaction of doing the work is very rewarding.

To be able to afford a Porsche you must be competent and confident. You can learn to turn some bolts and so on.

People like me in the city can't work on our cars in the underground garage. We have to go to an Indy or dealer.
