$40k-50k range: 997.2 C2 or 997.1 C2S?

Maybe I missed it in the thread, but I'd be looking at the 997.2 with the new DFI engine, rather than the 997.1 with the old engine - the one with the risk of bore score and intermediate shaft failure (even the later ones), and the risk a big bill for an engine rebuilt. I'd also always be looking for the twin clutch PDK instead of the old tiptronic auto.

If you are considering paying the same price for a car that is a year or two older than one said model year, then yes you are overpaying regardless if you are buying a Chevy or Pcar. Jeez. Newsflash: No need to go on tour. It's actually common knowledge.
7.2s are asking at $40K for a nicely appointed car. Paying this kind of money for a 7.1 is silly. Here is a nice example of a manual 7.2. PDKs can be had for less.

sensitive? its a forum and some back and forth how it kinda works...
Lets use your/this example below you posted....I think you mean 7.1 base (not 997.2s) nicely appointed are asking 40K range but the same price for 997.1s is silly? Lets compare....
You can get a 997.1s with half the miles (yes half....-25K miles) and more options, better appointed (full leather, sport chrono, sport seats and toss in some possible bigger ticket options like maybe X51, cup aero package and on and on) for that same low 40K range in price of the car you provided for compariosn... and that's silly? Guess I don't see it as a silly otion.
To any owner or future owner - one should ask what matters to them and its going to vary. Which car would I be more excited to climb into and go drive for an afternoon, to a car meet, track day, Porsche group meet, canyon/scenic road twisty drive or other; to me the decision is easy when comparing the base 997.2 you noted and for example the 997.1s I bought last year....these are things I like to do with my 997 (yet to track my 997 but have done track days in the past with other cars) albeit may not be the same others may do with theirs. Some may want a low key commuter car or other....
One car would have me making a laundry list of mods to get it to my liking in the base 997.2 and the other I could be content getting in and just driving!!!
Below in silver is the car you noted as found pics on sellers craigs list ad asking 42.5k.... and under that is the car I bought with 23K miles for same price as the silver base 997.2 you noted/provided below as comparison. Mine is 05 c2s, aero cup, bought with the mods installed by previous owner, factory options are full terracotta leather, sport seats, bose, sport chrono etc..car also came with additional quality aftermarket upgrades etc. note also the car I bought prior owner just sent to flat6innovations for complete IMS solution. (many 997.1 cars have an IMS fix)
Pic 1-2 the silver base car...
Pic 3 and 4 is how the car arrived to me, I swapped out the Champion wheels (black centers, polished lip) that came with the car for the current champions with no out of pocket costs as seen in pic 5.
My car is NOT for everyone, not by a long shot but checked the boxes that were important to me. I have yet to see a base 997.2 for 42k range I would even consider vs the 997.1s I found for same/similar price.
Is the base 997.2 an amazing car, no doubt! Is it silly to consider a well equipped 997.1s car if it checks your boxes? Nope....that would be, well..... silly.

Someone is sensitive. Maybe you did overpay. I don't know or care.

That's a good point on the modding. Depends on what you want or like to do. If you don't like modding then getting something with all your requirements is key.
I can't have anything stock (car, house, wife, work, etc..) so buying a base car and then making it the way I want fits my personality better.

Agreed.... either in your blood or not to want to Mod. Boats, Jetskis, 4x4, homes, watches, other... I prefer the uniqueness and knowing what I have is now better to what was once there.

NO question! Agreed
and that's what you get for the same
money let's be honest. You don't get a stripped 997.1s for same as a base 997.2 (same miles). Many times you can find a very well or highly optioned 997.1s for the same money...
