Default 4 AWD defeat with Parking Brake Clarification

Alright, there are on line videos and reviews that claim if you pull the parking brake up to the first notch, your 4 becomes a 2.

Has anyone experimented with this and can confirm?

Why would this be a feature and any chance of damaging the car playing with this?

Every thread on this is filled with "don't do it" or "very curious let me know how it works". Found one response for an old thread by someone who tried it and it was fine.

I'm lost.. how would semi engaging the parking brake disable the front driveshaft?

Software can determine how much power goes to the front. I've heard if the parking brake is on it causes zero power to the front. One click on isn't actually engaging the brake so it is a way for the AWD owners to see what a RWD feels like. That being said. I don't know if any of this is true or urban legend.

For the love of Dog someone try this and report back. It's winter - perfect time for donuts.

I don't know a spot to attempt donuts but doubt it will work. I was playing with launch control and did my first ever launch. Awesome! For round two I tried to pull up the parking brake a click... nothing. As in the car just sat there.

I tried it in an empty car park but I don't think it worked as an instant 2WD conversion: it just understeered. Maybe I just have too much grip/tyre at the back. I'll have another go on a loose surface.
