Damned AC buttons-- a fix???
#91
The install was pretty simple. Took me about an hour-- but I am VERY clumsy.
The only tip I'd give is that when it is time to push the old sliders out of the frame, if it is not going easy, try the other edge instead first. One side seems to be pushed out easier.
Also-- watch the other videos in this thread-- they were slightly different, and watching both the vendor video, and the ones posted above were helpful.

They definitely look good! I can totally relate to how something small like worn button finishes can drive a man nuts, and when you see how easy the fix is, you can't believe how simple / inexpensive / and satisfying such a thing actually was.
Adds weight to the phrase, "it's the little things."
Similar experiences for me were:
Replacing the frunk struts. Takes about 5 minutes and I think 40 bucks? - yet I probably let that lid bonk my head for months before doing anything about it.
Once done, I found myself wanting to show everyone - "Look everyone! The hood doesn't bonk my head!"
And another was in my BMW M Roadster. It had the mushy seat bushings, so the seat would slide forward on braking and backward on throttle - "the rocking chair" effect. It was only an inch or two, but really drove me nuts. I had the $9 delrin bushings in my toolbox for 6 months before taking an hour to pull the seats and replace them. Once I put them in it was like a new car. I couldn't believe I waited so long to do such a simple thing.
The buttons are on my list and have been since I bought the car... I plan to do the plasti-dip with an artist brush for now, and then address the infamous '997 Mirror Whistle' which I've been saying I would tackle for at least 3 years now...
Again. It's the little things.

Some of those close up shots looks like the mfr is spraying those switches with asphalt! I'm glad I didn't order them - I never saw the $99 price - for me it showed $159. (post #36)

I got mine Saturday. THEY ARE TOTAL GARBAGE! If I was the manufacturer, I'd be embarrassed to show them as a prototype.
I will not resell mine, as I have a conscious. If you want to pay shipping, you can have them.

It's really interesting how wildly different the views are on the quality of these switches. I wonder if the production variance that wide or if it's just a question of how each person views the expected quality relative to their own standards. Mine shipped recently and I'll make sure to post some high quality macro shots of the switches either way.

I would ask for a refund... if they pass I would smeer their company name on every board possible. Mine should be here soon and of they suck will ask for a refund... if they pass I will blow them the **** up online with negative feedback from here to kingdom come.
