Does 997 burn Motul 8100 0W40 ?
hi
in October I did my first oil change on my C4S (temperatures were around 20 degree C during that time). I wanted to buy Mobil 0W40 but guy from where I buy parts from recommended Motul 8100 0W40.
I had seen previous recommendations on Motul 8100 0W40 too so I went with it. The guy said that Motul doesn't burn and oil quantity will remain the same until the next oil change.
2000 kms later, in -10 degree C yesterday, I noticed that my oil level is one bar down. Which still doesn't require me to refill but it is one level below.
Now, should I be concerned, or this is due to cold weather? I am concerned because of what I am have been reading about IMS and oil consumption.
Anyone else using Motul in cold weather? Have you seen oil level going down?
My car is 2007 with 120 k KMs on it.
Thanks.

You don't have an IMS issue with an 07. I used both Motul 8100 (which is 5w40) and Mobil1 0w40 on my Audi in the winter and I felt Motul was the better oil. Car would just heat up faster in cold weather, oddly. Bear in mind that's not on a 911 and that the Audi didn't burn either.
BTW, 1 bar is about 300 cc which is not a big deal for 2000 km. Oil consumption could also be due to failing air-oil separator which wouldn't surprise me at 120000 km. Or it could be nothing.

If anything the oil with the lower viscosity, ie the Mobil, might be expected to show higher consumption but in HOT weather. There would be no difference expected between the two until you reach Artic temps. There the Mobil MIGHT flow a bit better. Motul is a grade 5 synthetic and a better choice under most conditions. Search for a viscosity vs temperature chart and you can see the differences for yourself. I seem to recall no difference in cold flow until you reach minus 10 F or somesuch. If you are dealing with such an extreme, honestly I might stay w the Mobil for the winter. Note this has nothing to do with your question regarding your oil consumption.
