Replaced a noisy clockspring in my 997.2, and all seems fine. Quick question. There's a red pin that looks like you can either remove or break off when you finish the install. On the old clockspring the pin looks broken off, but it seems like the pin is designed to be pulled out when installed. Anyone know the proper procedure? Thanks!
That pin is there to hold the clockspring from rotating during shipping or installation. It should only be removed once the clockspring has been installed in the correct position with the wheels and steering wheel aligned.
That's what I figured, thanks. I was briefly confused because the old clock spring still has the pin, and the original pin looks like it's scored so you can break it off. It would explain the noise. I bought the car used so I'm going to assume dumb mechanic.
