Default Just got sport SW... pretty impressive

I have about three days with more buttons, and I gotta say, I'm very impressed. Sport is the standard driving mode, and it feels like a very different car. High RPM shifts are amazing. And I just did a 3 gear run in sport plus, and holy smokes. The car got a little sideways on the 1-2 shift. If anyone is on the fence about this, do it. It's the best 1500 I've spent in a long time.

I have been thinking of doing this to my late model 2005 CS2 Tip as the shifting drives me nuts. I have herd mixed reviews. Still very tempted. Do you have any further thoughts?

Cheers Greg

My car is pdk, so I'm not sure how it would translate to the auto, but with the pdk it's great. So much more responsive. In sport, it keeps the car in a much more usable part of the rev range. And throttle response is drastically improved. Sport plus is kindof excessive but fun if you want to run through a few gears to redline. I had never experienced any wheelspin prior to sport plus, but the car got pretty loose on the 1-2 shift. Great fun. But it's the quality of the shifts that really makes the difference. Much quicker... and like a power shift.

IIRC Sport on a Tiptronic locks the torque converter but you need a Tiptronic S which may be a different transmission all together

My former 2005 C2 had SC, the Sport mode was a huge improvement over the standard Tip shifting behavior. Not as drastic as on the PDK but it greatly improved the Tip.

Thanks guys for your input, I have a Tiptronic S and I think I have made my mind up and will install the retrofit Sports Mode.

We are talking about the Porsche software here, correct?

Hi JD,

Can you tell me which dealership installed it for you?

I asked the guys at Porsche of Stevens Creek just last week about doing this, and while they said they'd do it, they weren't enthusiastic about taking on the job.

Thanks.

Karl.

Hey Karl,

I had it done at Fremont Porsche. Interesting that Stevens Creek doesn't want to do it. I would think the margin on a SW file and a little plastic insert would be pretty solid. They gave me the standard 10% off, so it felt pretty reasonable ito price.

Having driven with this for a couple weeks, I would recommend this upgrade to anyone.

Thanks.

John

I have a 2008 2s with Tiptronic. I always drive it in Sport Mode. Huge difference in drive-ability. I don't know if it is true or not, but it seems to get more aggressive once the car is up to temperature...

My only problem is that at highway speeds it does shift to 5th if you are not one the gas, but a quick downshift, or leaving it manual mode does the trick. BTW is there an way to make it default to Sport mode?

I did the paddle conversion with a donor steering wheel and it's a blast to drive...
