Thinking of picking up a 997s, really love cobalt blue. Values on these seem to be all over the place. Any advice or estimates greatly appreciated!

thats a pretty car. I got an early 2005 for a few thousand less, but less options. 20k miles on the clock and warranty til almost 2020. If I were you and you are really interested in the color, etc..., maybe do some research and see if the IMS has been done, if not, perhaps look into what a warranty costs or just factor a new IMS into the equation (iirc, its about $3500 for the IMS solution, to make the thing bullet proof). The IMS can be an "issue" but I don't think it makes the car disposable, just make sure to get it done.

Agree with rodH.. don't not get the car because of IMS, just make sure you understand it and resolve.
There are a bunch of these for under 40. Keep looking if it doesn't feel right.

I like that one at about $37k due to the year. Fwiw, I paid $44k about 6 months ago for an 06 c4s cab, basalt black, 27k miles on the odometer and a $116k window sticker when new. I think you can get them down at least enough to cover doing the IMS or putting a warranty on it. Then enjoy every second of it!

40ish is fair especially if in good shape and you like the color. IMS is a non issue IMO. If older you get it replaced, newer you are all good. If equipped with older bearing you can use that to negotiate a lower price.
Any problems associated with a first year model will have been sorted out by now.

The IMS can be a killer or sweetheart on an early 997. Get an intensive PPI and hold a reserve to fix the IMS. If you dont fix it, you will have to explain it to a future buyer.

If you think you'll track your 997 at some point, get an '05 and replace the IMS. Most of not all of the few IMS failures on the 997.1 cars were in larger bearing cars on the track - I'm aware of 2 occurrences. To some, the early '05 car where you can actually replace the IMS should have a higher value. If in the car's history, it was ever in a colder climate, pay the extra to have the cylinders boroscoped to look for bore scoring.
I say go for it.
