Default $4,000 Mouse damage...Argh

Here is my story, hope it helps someone.

I have a nice bit of property adjacent to open land. Problem is......critters.

Fired up the little girl and went to Home Depot for some sprinkler parts etc. When I shut down, I smelled gas. I gave her the once over and saw fuel dripping out from the front of the car. Great. It was Sat and called a flat bed to tow it to my friends Porsche Dealership.

A mouse had chewed through the high pressure line to the engine. Total cost was $3975 at the dealership. Front suspension, gas tank had to be removed to replaced to replace the fuel line. My buddy at Porsche was on it like white on rice come Monday morning and had Porsche do an alignment after all repairs were done. Insurance covered everything minus my deductible no issues. Breakdown is $160 for the fuel line and the rest in labor. Im sure there will be a ding on my carfax report but meh. It was the will of the universe and was fixed by the best in the industry. Thank the universe for comprehensive insurance. Geico didnt even bat an eye. This is my fist claim in over......30 years?

Insurance adjuster said they are used to it in my area.

Tonight, my property is covered with many forms of mouse death. Bait, traps and Electro-Death traps.

FYI, yes I know I need to update my insurance company.

Sorry to hear about that!

At least it's done and fixed. Sometimes Good fortune (a place in the country and a Porsche in the garage) has it's little aggravations. Enjoy your Weekend and here's to a lot of mouse carnage!

Sorry this happened, but glad all is fixed and well now. Do not understand though why you feel this may show up on Carfax report when no collision occurred.

I'm glad everything got taken care of. The fascinating take-home for me is that this is something you can have insurance cover. I live on acreage and have had transmission wiring chewed through twice on my truck by groundhogs in the spring,as the truck was left outside year-round ( it's large.) At $1500 each time for the repair, did the math and built it its own garage which at $6000 was worth a few more groundhog events and have had no problem since. It honestly never occurred to me that this was insurance reportable. So thanks!

I have 2 things plugged into the wall in my garage right next to where I park my baby.

1) Battery tender if Im leaving the car idle for a few days.
2) One of those mouse noise frequency thingies.
I keep that plugged in year round and have it situated on the floor of the garage right beside the Porsche.
No idea if it actually works but I dont see any evidence of mice in the garage so I suppose it works.

I also live right beside greenspace and a ravine and have mouse issues around the house.

Correct, this is a direct comprehensive insurance claim.

Tip for mice:

After you snag one in a snap trap, hang it on the house as a message to all others. Worked for the Brits on the bridge to the Tower of London.

A co-worker stores his 964 up in his garage within his weekend mountain home. He discovered last week mice ate through the main wiring loom. $4k in dealer repairs that was also covered under his insurance.

I will support B.i.P on that.
For those that love mice, close this thread now. Please don't read any more of this post.

Tiss the season for all this critters to come inside for the winter and fornicate and sleep. Snap traps are great, but they catch one at a time, and you have to be there to check and reset. I build these for the cottage. Brother gets 2o a week in his. I have not checked my cottage trap for two weeks.

If you think you have a mouse? Just relax...
The gestation period is about 19–21 days, and they give birth to a litter of 3–14 young (average six to eight). One female can have 5 to 10 litters per year.

11year old and I, built this. One of 8 this year.

4" of water in the bottom, with anti-freeze if it gets cold.
Mouse spa.
Carnival ride? Would require admission or a ticket. I don't have time for that.

I've used a similar trap. I call it "The Spinning Peanut Butter Wheel of Death".

I know exactly how you feel. I'll cut right to to the point - while I was working overseas for an extended length of time I got an email from my ex that there was a rat who turned the engine of my beloved Shelby GT500 into his personal nest. He ate every piece of rubber he could - $1,300 dollars later the car was back to life. In response I built a great wall of glue traps, a perimeter shield of over 100 of them that extended around both the Porsche and the GT500 until I got home. I will say ever since that incident I keep my garage so neat you could do surgery in there - and no boxes out.
