Default Auto locking question

How does the auto locking feature work ?
I know I can program it such that my door will lock automatically when my speed exceed 5mph and my question is:

Does the door unlock automatically when you shut off the engine ? If not, does it ever unlock automatically if I enable the auto locking feature ?

You can set (or dealer can) these options (from the owner's manual):

Automatic door locking
Your authorized Porsche dealer can program diverse
types of automatic door locking in the control
unit of the central locking system:
Type 1
Doors lock automatically when the ignition is
switched on.
Type 2
Doors lock automatically when a speed of
3 - 6 mph (5 - 10 km/h) is exceeded.
Type 3
Doors lock automatically when the ignition is
switched on. If doors are opened with the engine
running, they lock again automatically when a
speed of 3 - 6 mph (5 - 10 km/h) is exceeded.
Type 4
The doors do not lock automatically.
Note
Automatically locked doors can be unlocked with
the central locking button or opened by pulling on
the inside door handle twice.
On vehicles with the Sport Chrono package, the
PCM can be used to activate automatic door locking.
Please observe the chapter “Individual Memory” in
the separate PCM operating instructions.

What year is that manual from? I had the dealer set my auto locking when I got the car and AFAIK the only options were 1)disabled, and 2)locks when car achieves 3-6mph. However mine seem to lock a lot slower than 3 mph, like, when the car is barely rolling. They even lock backing down my driveway.

And to the OP, no, they won't unlock automatically. The only car with auto locks I had that did that was an '89 Cadillac. Locked when you put it in drive, unlocked when you put it in park. My E-Class doesn't unlock automatically either.

I believe it's a 997.1 manual. Mine is set for type 3 - both doors lock when ignition is switched on. If I open a door after ignition on, it will lock again when I start moving. No auto unlock on any of the options.

2009 C2S

On a 997.2, you can only set autolocking if you have sport chrono and you do this via the PCM screen. I do not have sport chrono, and had the dealer try to program it only to see the computer resets itself to no lock after one activation. The dealer never saw this before, called Porsche, didn't get an answer. I also tried with my Durametric and got the same results. No one, to my knowledge, has got the auto lock feature to work on a 2009 or newer without sport chrono.

You can buy the sprort chrono software and have it installed by the dealer... you get a new switch on the dash and some features like locking now show up in the PCM menu.... google and you will find stuff on this option.

Peace
