Default WTB: 997.2 manual

Hi all,

I'm in the Bay Area and I'm looking for a 997.2. My only must haves are coupe, manual gear box and no more than 50,000 miles. I've been looking for a while on Craigslist and some other sources but without much success, mostly because PDK cars are much more common.

I'd appreciate any points. I'm definitely open to looking at cars outside of the Bay Area or even California.

Thanks!

Something like this? It's on Autotrader. ( not mine and no affiliation- I just spend a lot of time car searching)

Hah, yea I have the same problem, wrt car searching.

To the op: when I search I look on autotrader, cars.com, cargurus, craigslist, rennlist, ebay, and sometimes even the porsche dealer used car search (on porsche.com). There's a fair amount of manual 997.2s available, provided you like grey, white, or black...

Whoops: just realized that I didn't reply. Thanks for the tip. That car looks pretty appealing. Seems about right - money-wise - when I compare it to other cars on the market.

I looked in this forum but didn't find an answer: is there a list of things (beyond the obvious) that you'd look out for in a 2009 997? Also, is there any significant difference between the 2009 and later year 997.2s?

Lastly (and I will also make this a separate post), can anyone recommend a good place to get a PPI done in the south SF Bay or Santa Cruz?

Thanks

P.S. If anyone's looking for a Cayman GT4, let me know. I've got a very nice one that a 997 would be replacing. I haven't posted it yet but am happy to provide info in a PM or email.

Thanks! I forgot to mention that I'm only looking for a coupe (I've updated my original post).

I think I'm mostly looking for an S but I'd like to hear what people think. What options - if any - are considered must have on the 997?

Would you mind sending me a link to the LA one?

The white one is at Phillips Auto in Newport Beach....don't look at any of the other cars or you will spend yourself blind....they have incredible cars.

www.phillipsauto.com

They don't have links (could just be an iPhone thing).

Wow, no kidding! They have a lot of nice cars. That white 997 looks pretty good. For the average car, is there a significant difference between 25,000 miles and 50,000 miles?

It's hard to find anything other than sliver, black or white 997s but white looks pretty good.

First major is due at 40k....other than that nothing except price.

If the car is documented and passes a PPI, it's up to you!

Most folks will tell you that you need an S. I opted for a lower mileage (43k) base C2 as an S at the same mileage would have been around an $8k+ premium and an S at the same price point would have another 30-40k or so on the odometer. I am very glad I did. The base C2 is plenty fast and an absolute blast to drive so I am finding myself racking up miles very quickly. Nearly +3,000 in a month! I would be sweating more if I was approaching 80k but now I have some room to enjoy it. The base 3.6 engine is plenty fast and after driving a friend's 997.2 C4S I noticed very little difference in power, much to my surprise. The only things I wish I had on the S are the sport steering wheel, which is smaller, and PASM, though it didn't seem to make that much difference when I tried it but is still a nice option to make things more comfortable. There's also the lower stance of the S which looks better and 19" wheels if you prefer that.

If you can comfortably swing a low mileage (<30k) 997.2 S then go for it. If you need to make compromises, I say get a newer and lower mileage car.

As far as options go, it depends on what you like.

Mine has the "full leather", which is really just the front of the dash and top of doors, but it makes more of a difference to me than I thought it would. Now I am planning on changing out the center console for leather wrapped. You will find there are a number of plastic parts in the cabin that look and feel cheap.

I think Sport Chrono does very little for a 6MT so I wouldn't put that on the "must have" list unless you really like the clock.

Sport seats are great, but the standard ones are perfectly good I think (coming from BMW sport seats).

Power seats with memory I would need in this in age.

PSE sounds awesome if you come across it, but the Fister exhaust sounds just as good at <$500 installed. You just don't get the option to turn it off like with PSE, which may be useful to you.

Buying a used 911, I advise you to budget a few extra $k for add-ons, mods, and little fixes.

When you get it, install an OEM short shift kit, pronto.

Thanks for all the advice! I'm getting a PPI done on a car this morning. Raffey1, it's the car you sent me the link to so I think I owe you a finders fee!

I'm excited: took it for a drive last night and loved it.
