Default Trade my 2012 997.2 GTS Vert for 991 GTS Targa?

I have a perfect Dark Blue Metallic 2012 GTS vert with 11,500 miles on it and love it, not a scratch. I even had custom matching alcantara added to the rear seats/ inside quarters of the car to match the front alcantara (very expensive.) It is stock except for k-40 and front xpel. It originally sticker-ed for about $130k and is out of warranty in February. The car is great and there are no problems except finding the time to enjoy it. My wandering eyes though have found a 2016 GTS Targa with 13k miles on it (sticker $162K.) Love the 991 Targa GTS, only about 300 made and it is optioned as I would want it. I would have to give the dealer about $55k plus my car to obtain it. My heart says yes but my brain says no. Any opinions?

Make sure you drive the Targa. I had a 991 Targa GTS and it was heavy, had very uninspiring steering, and the roof creaked. I kept it for 6 months.

Its great they make so many varieties of these cars. As much as I love the look of Targa (I really do).. its the heaviest 911.. so for me it makes the absolute least sense. I'll have a Targa 911 when I have about 5 other 911.

If you're not driving your current car very much, why drop another 55k for the next model also to depreciate in your garage?

I have a DBM '12 GTS cab as well. Drive it, man!

That's so true about the Targa !!! That's the main reason why I'm not considering them...no matter how much I like the car.

I think I have been effectively talked off the proverbial cliff. I did not realize the creaking issue was so widespread until alerted in this thread. Unwanted noises and creaks drive me nuts. Had a 2011 M3 vert and the hardtop would not stop creaking. Had it in the dealership numerous times and they could not permanently repair it. Ended up taking the hit and ditching the car because of that issue. I will stick with my GTS, enjoy it and keep my hard earned$$. Thank you all for your informative replies.

One other consideration is that with the Targa it can get extremely hot in the summer, like an all glass oven, I drove one and the owner could not say enough about not buying one, squeaks, roof rattles. I personally enjoyed the car (07 4S Targa). You are also more on display, they are not Porsche's most subtle car.

Fun fact. The 991 GTS4 Targa was the only Carrera that MSRPd more new than the GT3.

If money were truly no issue, I'd vote 991 Targa, I just love the look. But your perfect GTS + $55k is not worth it in my opinion, it'll depreciate that $55k in the next 3 years.
