Very glad I saw this. I had no idea that Xenon bulbs changed as they age but in fact I took my 997.2 for its first night ride last night and the light output looks almost halogen-like. It's bright and useful but looks pretty yellow. From the front of the car they do look like Xenon bulbs but not the light output. Pelican Parts has Bosch bulbs which look decent but I can't see a temp rating on them. Anyone have a good reco for replacement? I might be inclined to go slightly cooler but not all the way to bluish 6000K -- yuck.
Amazon seems to sell a Philips D2S WhiteVision which is listed at 5000K. This sounds like exactly what I want. Would love to hear experiences if any of you have tried them. I've read the posts about CRI etc; just prefer a slightly cooler beam.
I've had excellent results with the OSRAM Xenarc Night Breaker Laser D2S.
They are 4200K but I believe that 5K aren't technically legal for public roads.
Your choice.:
Phillips WhiteVison D2S 5000K for the low/hi. Left is the 5000K, right is the older stock HID. Whiter and not blue at all.
Also did the "high beam" flasher bulbs which were standard halogen. Used Phillips CrystalVision Ultra H11. Again, left is new right is stock. Much nicer light and doesn't look out of place next to the Bi-Xenon.
I'll update this thread if there are any longevity issues but I am pleased so far with the result.
