I've opened it a couple times at the kids request - other than that never when I'm driving solo.

I use it whenever I'm driving and it's dark outside.

When I get on the interstate I close everything and switch on the A/C, which also helps keep the compressor seals lubed. Having a sunroof is almost worth putting up with the incessant slap-bang-rattle when it's closed. I had convertibles, never again. Even the fastest tops don't close quick enough for our sudden downpours. Plus fabric tops die an early death from the sun down here, and there's the vandalism issue. And I have never driven a drop-top that felt as rigid as a coupe.
997 cab top down doesn't have any real buffeting, unlike our Cayenne, which does with the sunroof open, windows down (big time) or up (somewhat less). 997 Cab with roof down and windows up is quieter than Cayenne with sunroof open, unless you stomp it.

I open it maybe once in the spring when I get the car out. Then go ehhh. and close it for the rest of the summer.

Oh yeah, I have it tilted open when it's warm outside. I really helps the ventilation.

Never. I once bought a car and didn't even realize it had a sunroof until about a week later, that's how unimportant it is to me.

so question - anybody ever consider having it removed.

I am sure this is not cheap and a lot of work involved. Would this compromise the safety of the roof structure ?

I am just thinking out loud

some cool uses for it: tilt open when u dont wana open windows for more engine noise/peripheral noise.

Also, when I tilt it open it ventilates the car so I get fresh air. Keeps me awake on long road trips. I rarey open it 100%, but sometimes I will on summer drives.

Plenty of times on nice warm days when below 50 mph. I prefer it all closed up though, feels snug and like the sounds and vibrations. Far from a cab guy.

I use mine quite a lot - usually full open if the A/C is off, or tilted if I'm using A/C.

I haven't yet checked the manual, but is there any recommended (or from practical experience) maintenance I should be performing to keep it working well and not breaking down?
